I wonder if the alcohol relaxes the muscles associated with you being able to "hold it in" - making the desire to wee stronger

Alcohol is a diuretic which means it makes the body wee more!! Hence why you also become dehydrated when drinking alcohol.

It's all to do with the chemicals in your body. Your kidneys have ducts which open and close to let the water go into your body. When you drink alcohol a chemical is released which closes these ducts therefore making you dehydrated. The liquid you've consumed has to go somewhere though, so you go to the toilet more often.

Alcohol is a poison, one that your body refuses and your liver cleanses. When you drink whiskey (which has high alcohol content) you are getting intoxicated. That relaxes you, and you gain less control over your bladder. That is one reason you have to urinate. Secondly, since the poison is in your system, your body goes to work on trying to remove it, once your liver cleanses the alcohol, you must remove it from your body, and your body wants that to happen fast. So, you get the urge to urinate.

In other words, 2 things: relaxation, and cleansing of the alcohol.

Because it is a power full diuretic the same as any other alcoholic drink!

Nothing to do with muscles relaxing - this only happens when you are so bladdered you wet yourself (I presume you weren't THAT drunk?!!).

Alcohol is a diuretic, that's the reason.
