Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what characteristics constitute the "ultimate" example of a dog depends entirely on who you are asking and why they want a dog!.
The ultimate for a fragile elderly person living alone in a unit would be quite different to what a tradesperson might want as a companion/watchdog that accompanies on their work, and the ultimate dog for the police/armed forces, would be something altogether different again. Of course "purebred" dogs, although sharing the same physical characteristics- can have very different personalities and that is something that you cant breed for. At the end of the day the ultimate mix breed is one that makes you happy and is not a nuisance or threat to your neighbours, friends or relatives.
