My Labby came out of the boarding kennels in heat for the very first time, my male is spayed and we have a fenced yard, but I am concerned that a dog may have gotten to her. I work full time and was unable to monitor her.
I need to know what to look out for, signs of pregnancy etc, my vet is currently on 14 days vacation, great timing, and I would feel better if I knew what to look out for.
Ever since she was in season she has had swollen nipples, but I do not know if this is normal or not. I think she is gaining weight, but that may just be me "thinking" she has.
For all of you who are 100% against animals not being spayed, can I just say that we only acquired her from another family a couple of months ago, and I fully intend to do this as soon as I have clarification from my vet that she is not pregnant.
I would appreciate any help you can give.

gestation lasts about 63days. they slowley put on weight and then the nipples will decend later on. was there any sings that another dog had gotton in eg broken fence.
but i would call a diffrent vet and book an ultra sound just to be safe as breeding at this age can be dangerus.
good luck.

It is quite normal for a ***** to have swollen nipples for a few weeks after being in heat she may not be pregnant but you need to have her checked by a vet,it is possible to feel pups inside her until 28 days after mating they will feel like small golf balls, put hand each side of abdomin and rub gently when dog is relaxed they are quite noticable if you feel this get her to vet for check up,she really should not have pups until she is at least 18 months old and the vet can terminate if this is what you want,it only involves tablets, much like morning after pill, other signs to look out for is vaginal mucus usually seen between 10 and 30 days after mating, hope this helps but please be more careful with her unwanted pups are not a good idea

First, males a neutered...not spayed. When your vet gets back in town, make an appointment for a spay for her. If she's pregnant, the cost for the spay may be $10 or $15 more, but that cost is much less than the cost of pre- and post-natal care of a litter of pups. The vet will likely be able to tell if she's preg or not pretty soon.

If you're going to keep an entire female you must protect her from unwanted attention from male dogs....you must keep her safe.

Whilst she is in season you should be putting her in a kennel run so no other dogs can get to her.

Go to your vet and have them look at her.....you don't have to go to your normal vet.

You can get her desexed if she is pregnant which would be the smartest thing to do as she is too young and you could be putting her in danger.
