My first wife said this alot.. She never was IN LOVE with me but grew to love me.Meaning I love you but not in love..Sometimes in rare cases its actually better than in love..Sometime In love rarely last and loving last forever..It just means they love and care for you and worry but they don't have the passion or the explosive love that is in romantic novels that is usually a myth.. But their are plus and minus to both..Actually we were married 23 years and I never really thought she loved me.I loved her but she cheated on me after the first three years i never forgave her I just couldn't ,but stayed with her for 20 more years..We were pretty good friends didn't fight and had a common interest..Two beautiful girls.Best thing that ever happened to me..The feeling love for someone could be the best thing that ever happened to you but usually the falling in love doesn't last or is not what you expected it to be..I look back now and really my life with her wasn't so bad..and she did care for me and after our divorce I found out in the long run that she cared for me more than being in love but she hurt me and I could never forgive her for it..I am married again...and had that romantic explosive love.I am very much in love with my wife and she seems to be very much in love with me,but we have cooled our heals over the years and it happens over time where you are still in love but not draped all over the other like you used to be. So hope this helps..

I personally think that when you are in love with someone you will definitely feel love for that certain someone. So, if this question is directed to the person you are interested in, I would definitely think that both fall in the same category. However, if this is not directed at a love interest, you can use "loving someone" towards a family member, a close friend etc etc. I hope that clears the issue.

I personally believe that there is. When your 'in love' with someone it means that all these feelings of 'love' are new to you for that person, but when you 'love' someone its a feeling that has died down to a past love or past lust situation, or its a feeling that you have always had for someone. IE: You would have feelings of being 'in love' with a new girlfriend/boyfriend... and 'love' would be the feelings you would have for a long term partner or your parents because you've had those feelings for a long time. I guess the only situation i can see where that theory doesnt work is when a mother(or both parents) sees/meets her baby for the first time, but then again they have had 9 months previous to the childs birth to get familiar with eachother...
That is just my personal opinion...

Yes, there is a difference that you can actually feel within you.
Love is a general phrase of affection for those we hold dear to our hearts and
Being "in love" with someone only happens once or more if you're lucky. In love will leave you breathless, flutters throughout your insides & a warming sensation that begins in your center and makes its way over every inch of your skin. You'll know when you are in love with someone else because their kiss will be electric. You'll want to share even the most mundane of daily occurances with them and they'll be there to listen.
Or as my son likes to say.....
You'll know when you're in love with someone when you are comfortable enough in their presence to fart, burp, pick your nose and go to the bathroom (even #2) with the door open.

I guess they largely mean the same...I love my parents and my sis... But i'm really in love with my boyfriend...That's just another way of saying i'm crazy about him ... ;)
Being in love would be appropriate for your significant other, loving someone can be attributed to anyone...

yes thier definantly is. you will know the difference when you find love. its like i believe that their is a "really like" (you really like the person) "love" (you love the person, you will know the difference between really like and love) and then "marrage love" (which you want to spend the rest of your life with them, once again, you will know the difference) but thats just what i think.

There is a lot of difference.
I love my mother, my brother, my daughter etc.
I am in love with this girl, who also loves me
Loving someone is soothing, gentle, kind and constructive
Being in love is sometimes consumating, troublesome, sacrificing etc. but it promises eternal bliss.

In the first case you are getting the satisfaction of intoxicating someone, and in the second case you have the satisfaction being intoxicated.

yes, I love my mother.
But being in love is much deeper, they make your heart flutter in a good way, and give you a feeling, that there is no one who can compare.
Being in love makes you feel like your walking on air.
