Abreva, because it doesn't just treat the cold sore, it works to help with the virus. It's the only over the counter medication which actually shortens healing time and is FDA approved. Which will be the quickest way to get over it and help prevent others. Remember not to pass the virus through kissing, etc.

Abreeva works very well; however, it stopped working for me. I have a cold sore right now. I went to the doctor for medicine, but it isn't really working. So, i went to wal-mart and decided to try something else. I got Campho- Phenique cold sore treatment gel and it works so well. It was less than $4 and it dries out the sore really well, which is what you want to do to cold sores. Hope this helps!

Ask your doctor or dentist to prescribe Denavir cream. It stops the sore in its tracks and promotes healing. Helps with itching and pain too. It does not numb tho....might want some (think it's called Anbesol) numbing agent.

Zovirax is the only cream I trust. I have tried several other over the counter creams and they only gave me more cold sores.

i actually use avon lip moisture therapy if its a cold sore on your lip and it helps
