Yes, dogs can have diabetes, just as in people the symptoms include: excessive thirst, hunger, urination, lethargy, confusion, usually weight loss but can be gain, trouble with eye sight and hair loss. The only way to confirm or rule out is for the dog to undergo blood work. If you suspect your dog is diabetic you need to see a vet asap. Diabetes can be treated but not cured at this time. The dog will have to be placed on maintenance meds and diet. This isn't something that can be put off. The dog just as in people can die if not treated properly.

Yes, Dogs and cats get diabetes. Its an epidemic almost as bad as people. One in 200 dogs and cats are diabetic. Some of the symptoms are thirst, vomiting, weakness in the hind quarters, frequent urination, dry itchy skin, weight loss... just for starters. Sad part is most people don't recognize the symptoms until its too late. To treat a cat for diabetes there are pills or insulin shots. For dogs, they have not yet produced a pill for treatment. Insulin shots are still the only method. I had a diabetic pomeranian for 15 years. So if you have a diabetic pet, please don't consider it a lost cause. Your dog or cat can have a normal long life if you are committed to maintaining the treatment. If you need advice or just more info... I'll be glad to offer what I can. Please consult the link below... there is also a link on the Dog Diabetes page for more info on cats with diabetes.

Forget anything you have ever been told about Diabetes.
And get this - it has nothing to do with insulin, exercise, diet or anything else you've heard in the past. It's all based on latest breakthrough research that Big Pharma is going Stir Crazy to hide from you.

Dogs can develop diabetes just like humans. The symptoms are very much the same;large consumption of water, excessive urination, lethargy, weight gain, weight loss, and many others.Get your dog to the vet and have him/her blood and urine tested for it if you are concerned. The symptoms of diabetes are also the symptoms of many other diseases.Good luck!
