\They are very hard to housebreak. Will ruin a hardwood floor, or carpet. It seems they are subject to excitability and will pee if some one knocks on the door. This is not a good dog for children either. They need a dog that will catch a ball, play with them. I would not call this a good lap dog either, for a lapdog you need a quieter breed.

Im a chihuahua owner. I'm also a stay at home mom. I do agree that Chihuahuas are not a good breed to have around children. My kids want to lug a little dog around and the dog wants nothing to do with them. He nips quite a bit.

My dog barks insanely when anyone walks by or comes to the door. My dog is only good with a few people in the family. I truly think that the people my dog was exposed to before he turned four months old, is who he is okay with. Anyone after that age, he shows aggression too. He never runs up and bites them, but her circles them and barks like mad. My dog started barking at people around 6 months old.

House training: was a chore for sure. Like I said, I'm a stay at home mom and have the time to spend with a dog and he's 16 months old and still has accidents. Maybe a few a week, but he is good about telling us when he needs to go out.

Good luck, they take time and patience. I think my mistake was getting him in the fall when it starts getting cold and you spend less time outside and going for walks. I think he wasn't socialized enough at a young age.

okay here goes mine is 12 wks old and he has not barked once yet and he was a breeze to house train you have to be consistant. You know like after a nap and an hour after eating therefore he or she knows when to go outside . I find them to be one of the smartest breeds I have ever owned and easy to house train so all these people on here that say they are hard to train . I dont find that to be the case at all. good luck .

Not sure about the barking but the males are notorious for peeing on everything even when they are older!
