Bitter apple cream. apply every hour or after washing your hands.
You will also need to keep your hands and mouth busy.
Mouth- sugarfree gum, coughdrops. Even try flossing with those flosser picks instead of biting your nails when you are driving or having "down time" (keeps your hands busy and teeth healthy).
Keep band-aids and/ or nail clippers around. A lot of biting is really grooming hangnails, etc. If the hang nails aren't there....
Hands busy.. every time you get an urge to bite, apply bitter apple, if you can. Get a ring, start twirling that instead of sticking your hands in your mouth. My sis said playing with her necklace helped distract her as well.
It takes about 21 days to break a habit (if you are persistent) so try to go day by day not biting your nails THAT DAY. Good Luck- dd

there is this special nail varnish that taste very nasty, what it does it prevents people from biting their nails... ask your pharmacist or chemist.
so each time you bite them you get a nasty taste in your mouth. With that you should be able to unlearn the bad habit... it is a natural product so it won't do bad to your body.
They use those on young children with nail biting habits... it does work.

If you find anything let me know please!
whats worse is that it really annoys my friends, and one of them whacks my arm every time they see me biting.
you could always try the horrible tasting stuff or putting chili on them - but neither of them worked for me :-(

Wear a rubber band on your wrist. Everytime you get the urge to gnaw on your fingers, snap the rubber band. They use that to stop people who pop knuckles as well.

Dip your fingertips in something smelly & obnoxious, so you won't want to put it up in your mouth or near your nose....(for example : poo, vinegar, bug spray, etc)
If you've bit them so badly & their always bloody & in bandages, you could put a bandaid around each one to train yourself to stay away from them. Works on toes too... :o

I started smoking, but that's obviously not great. Try to replace it with chewing gum or something when you are nervous.
