It happens all the time with me. I know what happens in my case.

Just like Telemarketing phone calls, computer (yes computer, not actual human being) sends faxes to a large number of telephones selected at random. When I pick up the phone or when answering machine answers, it is beep sound.

Most likely it is same in your case.

I suggest go to 'www.donotcall.gov' and register your number. It made difference in my case.

If it is a long beep, with a changing tone...it is a FAX machine. Many companies have the wrong numbers programmed into their mass fax transmissions, I had this happen for months, until they figured out there was no actual reply, or 'handshake'..

Sometimes it does if the caller is just trying to play w/ u or just checking ur number if ur a real guy out there hahaha. Drop it down, u dont pay anything for that. If it bothers u, request from ur tel company to block unregistered calls. Hmmm just few bucks will do for u to pay the monthly bill for that request.

Could be a fax machine is mis-dialing your number.

could be an auto-dialer...or a fax machine...just hang up...before they answer!
