My friend lives on Koh Tao Island in Thailand and she has sent me a mobile phone number by email which starts with a "0". Can someone please tell me what codes I need to put in and if I need to drop the "0" to get a text message through to her?

Dialing from UK use +66 8XXXXXXXX to send your text. Simple. Just make sure there is 9-digit phone number without the zero. If she had sent you her number after 1 Dec 06, the additional digit "8" would have been included already. If she had sent you her number before that date, it will be the old number without the "8" so you can just add it to the front of her mobile numbers.

The previous answers I believe are correct, you do need to drop the zero, to dial any mobile in Thailand, you need the code 08, internationally you will drop the zero. But you will need to dial an international code before the 66 (code for Thailand), if calling from the U.S. for example, I would need to call 011-66-8-plus the number. I'm sure the operator in the UK can advise you as to which international code you need to put in prior to the 66. Good luck!

Thailand is +66 so if it works in the same way as texting Cambodia then you need to put in +66 then the number you have. If it starts with a zero you normally drop the zero. I'd do it without the zero. That's definitely right for Cambo so Thailand should be the same.

she right you must drop the zero, but also now all mobile phones have added a 8 after the zero. so in your case be sure after the 66 the next number is an 8.
