If your busy lifestyle will include your dog then I would recommend a miniature pincher... very little grooming or shedding to contend with and they love to go bye-bye. yet don't demand the long long walks like a shepherd would.
If you won't "really" have time for a dog then consider a bird.
GOOD LUCK

The stuffed animal variety! Honestly, it's really tough to raise a dog and work a busy job, while still having time for fun.
If you are dead-set about getting a dog, get an older one or even a elderly dog from the local shelter. Pick a laid back dog who's well past puppyhood. That way, all the dog will want to do is hang out and be loved on, and you won't have to spend every waking hour on dog care. Every dog requires certain things, though, and you need to make sure that you have the time to provide for a dog's basic needs (a fenced yard, or walks 3 times a day, fresh water all the time, food at least once a day, training, and love).
Hope this helps!

I think, personally, that no dog is good for a busy lifestyle unless you plan on taking the dog with you everywhere, people who lead a busy life find it hard to spend time with a dog in the most crucial part of their lives-puppyhood, if you don' t spend that time with that dog it will never understand what you want from it and you will always have behavioral problems, the best animal for a busy lifestyle would be a cat, they are very low maintance, and don't need alot of attention

A pet is like a child! Imagine leaving your baby in the crib for 14 hours a day and not play with it and make sure it is well taken care of both physically and emotionally?
Pets can give more unconditional love than humans so think on how much love you are willing to give back before bringing a animal home, cause most of the time because of what you are describing of being TOO busy is that animals are sometimes abandoned, killed or sent to the pound because the owner didn't want to change their lifestyle.

There are some good sites out there that will give you information on dog breeds. Keep in mind that dogs are pack animals and you will either need to have it with you in your busy lifestyle (you are it's pack) or you need to have two at home to keep each other company. Even then they may need lots of exercise and/or attention when you are home.
This site is Australian but it should give a start in the sorts of things to consider:

Maybe see if you can find one for your region.

A great thing to do if you are busy but would still like to have a pet is to adopt an older dog or two... they can keep each other company and they will be trained already, if you are really busy you probably will not have time to potty train a puppy (it can take up to a year depending on breed/size/temperment of the dog!)

Do you mean the dog is going to be busy, too, like going to the park and running errands with you, or do you mean you are going to be busy and not able to spend much time with the dog?
If you are going to be taking the dog with you, something small is the best choice, like a pug-a-poo or teacup poodle.
If you are too busy to spend time with the dog, then don't get one. They require tons of attention because they are pack animals. They were not created to spend time alone. If you feel you have to get a dog for safety issues or something, then get two who are litter mates so they can always keep each other company. German Shepards are a good choice for safety. Just make sure they have plenty of room to run and play.

You need a toy miniature dog like shi tzu, schnauzer or terriers which needs minimal attention and sustenance. Having a busy lifestyle needs a stress reliever and dogs would really be a good help to erase that doze of stress. Believe me, after a long day of work and you come home with your dog waiting and come to welcome you..all your stress will be gone..

Pretty much all dogs need a lot of attention. If you can't give them that, try getting a cat. Or a goldfish could do it..
