anything like the stories you hear on tv?

if not, don't you think then that what you see on tv is a combination of western bias( b/c of iraq, israeli/palestinian conflict) and a small percentage of muslims who don't know their religion?

I am from a Malaysia, a Muslim country where the majority population is Muslim of course but I myself am a non-Muslim. In my experience, the Muslims around me have never resorted to violence in any way. They are peaceful people who sort out problems in rational ways. Of course, there are a few groups who practice Islam in slightly different ways or with stricter rules, but none of it was ever violent.

Look at the countries where the violence is taking place, they are mostly countries with political & economical instability and the people are oppressed. Isn't it any wonder that they retaliate? The problem is that the political leaders conveniently use the religion to influence the people and violence is then commited in the name of the religion.

However, when practiced properly and rationally, like it is here, the core of the religion is one of peace and love, just like any other religion in the world. So I feel it's unjust to automatically classify all Muslims as violent people. Most of them can be very nice people actually.

There are people from all along the scale in any religion. The label of "Muslim" is no different. From the answers to your question, it seems that there are plenty of intolerant Muslims out there, just like there are intolerant Christian rednecks roaming free. On the other hand, there are even more peaceful Muslims who just want to practice their religion and culture in peace. Right now, many "normal" Muslims have become the scapegoats of the US's myriad of problems due to the recent trouble raised in the Middle East. But don't be blinded either way - they are neither all "good" nor all "bad"; we should treat each individual as different, because there are a lot more facets to one's personality than religion alone.

The media does not "stage" events in the world to trick the masses in to believing one thing or another. Islam is a truely evil force... say anything against it and see how long your head stays on your shoulders for.

What we see on the TV and read in the newspapers / internet is a fair representation of islam as a whole - a stone age and barbaric religion

Try becoming an embedded journalist for say four weeks in downtown Bagdad, then re-ask the question.

So in answer to your question - Yes, the muslims i meet are just the same as they are on the TV

Of the Muslims I've actually met, most have been reasonably civil. But there is inevitably an unmistakable undercurrent of superiority and condescension. Without exception, they have assumed the authority to dictate the nature of reality merely by claiming it to be a certain way, often in the face of irrefutable evidence to the contrary. Every one, without exception, has denied plain facts and/or made preposterous excuses for the most horrific acts of terrorism, while showing little or (usually) no respect at all for the traditions, values, and views on non-Muslims. Islam is the only faith I have ever encountered which teaches arrogance as a positive value.

NONE of the Muslims I have had contact with are anything like what you see on tv, and that includes Muslims in the US and in Africa. What the tv shows is an extreme biasand is quite inaccurate.

Most of the Muslims you see on tv (news) are extremest(there are extremest in all religions). Not all extremest are terrorist either. The news captures a lot of the bad side of all people. No one can say a person doesn't know their religion, though one could question individuals interpretation of a religion.

So what you see on the news is very conscrewed. You must first know that not all muslims are Arab or from the Middle East. Also, Islam is one of the largest if not the largest religion in the world.

So the answer to your question is no.. they are not.

This is very true some of the non-Muslims who do fear Muslims do so because of lack of knowledge or the biased information they are being fed by the media and etc. A person can find the truth when they search for it on their own.

I lived along with large muslim community. They were students and were supporting 9/11 attacks on us. It only took long time for them to realise that they have to worry about their future instead of stupid ideas.
The thing I did not understand is that, how US became enemy for those mulims living in Sout Asia. May be palestine is worrying their imams which is inturn brainwased as US hatred to kids.
I think this is all due to islam which says that non-muslims are enemies to muslims.

Most muslims are just like everyone else. There are good people and there are bad people. To generalize one group of people by their race/religion is wrong

I live in an area where there are a lot of mid eastern folks. And I have met a few Muslims that scared the wits out of me, making me think that they were terrorists. A friend of mine is a airport bus driver and he comes in contact everyday with different Muslims some of which seem scary and others who seem polite and kind. We can't generalize.
