This is mentioned in a blog.
"The Italian and I had bought platinum wedding bands to exchange at our June wedding, but in December we decided that we also wanted a yellow gold set, the traditional Italian wedding band, to exchange at our civil ceremony. "
Another superstition concerning Italian weddings is that the bride should not wear any gold on the day she is married, until wedding rings are exchanged.
Sounds like they are just yellow gold rings.

You could probably search out one made of Italian gold. Some European gold jewellery is different than what we get in North America.

Italian, as well as greek, middle eastern, north african, and other medeteranian areas, use gold (usually 18kt-24kt, def not less than 18kt)

They're beautiful, as well as timeless.

They come in any design you want them in. Go to any jewler, depending on where you live. There are plenty in well populated cities.

Ask a very good jeweler. The more high end the shop, the more likely you are to get your answer.
Best wishes!
