Crunches and situps are meant to build and contour abs and obliques but they will NEVER get rid of love handles.
You must use a combination of total body workouts and proper nutrition. Not the answer you wanted to hear huh? This includes some form of weight lifting, cardio, stretching and ab routines.
At the barest minimum, if you cannot do anything else, at LEAST start running. That is the #1 best way to shed poundage especially around your waistline.
If you're looking for a shortcut/easy way to get results, get comfortable with that tire around your beltline cuz it'll be there for a while.

Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span.

Cardiovascular activity is always extremely important to losing fat. I suggest jogging or sprinting at least 3 times a week. You should also avoid eating at night, because the unused energy is stored as fat while you sleep. Make sure to eat better meals, it's okay to have some junk but you have to make sure that you have good foods too.

instead of regular crunches, do side ones where your elbow hits the opposite knee. Try it, but it does take a lot of them.
