How come on here, whenever a non-muslim like me criticises islam, there's always a million muslims answering in the fashion of 'you don't understand islam', or 'you're frightened due to lack of information' etc. How come every single non-muslim in the world is wrong, and the muslims are right? Many of us have read plenty about islam and form the view that is an evil religion that promotes violence, hatred and death, will not compromise etc. We've come to these views because we have read about it and look at it objectively whereas they can't due to a lifetime of indoctrination, recitations, ritual prayers, fasting. It's just so condescending for them to continually say that all the time, do you agree?

Scooby Doo - thanks for the huge and very boring paste. However, I really couldn't give a cow's c*nt about your beliefs - it's actions of muslims in the name of allah that bothers me. Killings, amputations, hangings, mutilations, beheadings, suicide bombings etc. Need I say more?

TS - you are typical of a blinkered retarded muslim - all you can answer is 'you don't understand islam'. Go and get the same education that I have, then come back.

THe thing that turns me off about Islam is they say its the same G-d as the one in the Bible. The G-d I know was thousands of years ahead of time on sanitation rules given to the Jews. The god in the Quran wants us to drink camel urine and eat fly wings. G-d of the Bible does not allow flies to be eaten.
They reject Jesus death, burial and resurrection. Instead they go for a 52 year old with a 6 year old wife....I just cant get into that.

first of all i don't know what conde........ means.
second of all no one on the planet said that muslims are right and all the other people are wrong.
it's just that some of us muslims are taken strongly by our religion - not me - and have no respect for other religions.
the majority of us however respect the fact that people will worship other than our god and have different religions.
we just say that u misunderstand islam because u haven't been raised upon the religion and so have little information about it.
we get angry when people like u critisise islam because that is showing that u have no respect for us or our religion.
i'm sure that only a few of u have been mislead to beleive that islam is an evil religion.
it's just the fact that if we make sacrifices our god has told us to make and do all the things god has told us to do in the qur'an, then we will be rewarded with life in heaven for eternity. u may think that we r a brutal religion but we only do what we have been told to do.
mabe if u explain what u mean by violence, hatred and death then we will explain to u that what u call violence and hatred is actually defending the religion.
what u call death is actually sacrifice in the name of our god.
and these indoctrination, recitations, ritual prayers and fasting, they are all ways to worship god.
it's not that we can't look at things in an 'objective' way.
we look at everything in a more advanced objective way than u ever will because we have been forbidden half the things that u do freely because it is worship to god. we have surrendered to our lord and will be rewarded with heaven.
while u do whatever u want we work our buts of for our god so we can go to heaven.
u may think that u are working but when the day of judgement arrives u will find out that in reality all u have been doing is playing and messing around and u will find out that you will be going to hell.

My uni had some 'Islamic awareness day' with loads of stalls etc so I went along. On one of the stalls they had some quote from the Qu'ran about everyone is equal, at which point I raised a question to one of the people running the stall 'if men and women are equal, then (1) why when at the mosque are women separated from men (2) why do women have to cover their faces or wear the headscarf and not men? I was responded to in a rather inappropriate and aggressive manner by the person behind the stall and others from the stall either side. And not one of them could answer my question. Considering this was an 'awareness' event and the purpose being it was for non-Muslims to learn about Islam, I thought this was a fair and reasonable question to ask. Clearly not. Having queried similar things with other religious leaders and members of different faiths, I have always been given a well thought out argument, with reasoning from whatever 'book' (equivilant to Bible) is theirs.
That experience, quite frankly, told me all I needed to know. Even now, I still get dirty looks when walking round campus.

you don't understand Islam. Have you read the whole Quran? If you haven't then you don't understand Islam. Then what violence are you talking about, Iraq? Where the president went into a country under false pretenses, or Palestine , where the Israeli govt has taken land illegally and oppresses the Palestinians and kills innocent civilians. Should they just take their beating and say thank you? I'm sure then Muslims would be labeled as stupid for not doing anything. Please, you're biased in your opinion. You see Islam through your biased media, yet there are plenty of Muslims on this site who are willing to have a civilized debate. Do any of us act in any sort of way like the propaganda you see by your BIASED MEDIA? So it basically comes down to you either not understanding Islam or you just hate Islam.

Islam does not promote violence, if you understood the meaning of the Oneness of God (Allah) then you would be able to understand.
If it did promote violence how come i haven't done any violence?
And its true it is dued to the lack of understanding, you got that point correct.
You are just told and shown what is apparent, i.e. on the media. And when you yourself read into it, you don't understand the Quran, therefore you are going to have a biased view.
How can one comprehend the meanings if they don't believe?

the misunderstanding about islam in the west is very understandable. muslims should not play the blaming game on the west for their lack of information islam, likewise the west should also be made clear between what is true islamic teachings and what is not. to explain every detail would be voluminous. basically if the west wants to understand islam fully they should go to the right sources to study and understand the religion. many muslims leaders today claim that they represent islam but their actions, words and deeds are all contrary to the religion's teachings. also islamic history has undergone tremendous distortion even in the early of islam especially by the hired and paid historians of the umayyads and abbasids. these selfish historians, muslims as they were, were being paid by the caliphs at that time to write history in line with the government's wishes. they do this to justify and as a cover up for their unislamic actions and deeds.for example the caliphs keep a large harem and womanise and they paid large sums of gold dinars to court historians to say in their books that the Holy Prophet was much married and even married a six years old by the name of Aishah. these books with the wrong facts were later published and republished and used a standard text of islamic history for hundreds of years. not only muslim historians of later centuries were fooled but western historians also fell into the same trap by basing their writings and academic understanding of islam on the so-called islamic sources. examples of muslim historians who distorted facts either intentionally or otherwise or simply just did not bother to check their facts are ibn tabari, ibn kathir and the likes. therefore it is the duty of modern muslim historians and other academics to conduct serious and profound research on islamic sources of history so that a true picture of picture can be gleaned from the true teachings of the Holy Prophet. in this sense we can thus solve the problem of terrorism linked to islam. peace be to you.

Muslims frequently use that kind of cliche expression to defend their religion.
When we criticize Islam, we tell the truth, but the truth is politically incorrect, and Muslims exploit that by calling us racists or haters.
Sadly, many Western liberals support them too, ruling out the possibility that we might actually know something about Islam. Anyone critical of Islam is an "Islamophobe" - you will almost never get intelligent responses to your criticisms.
The double standards and intellectual dishonesty of Muslims are painfully obvious.

"The double standards and intellectual dishonesty of Muslims are painfully obvious" did you mean American media/Christians?
Keep feeding into the stereotypes and bias. If you are comfortable the way you are than fine just don't worry about Muslims so much. I know a lot of christian converts that finally found out the truth even after 9/11 because they got first hand information and don't go get biased books and search false web sites.

non-muslim actually understand islam better than muslims.
Muslims only know about wars when it is a non-muslim country against a muslim country. Ask them about Sudan and they don't give crap.
They go on about so called, "islamophobia" in the UK but know absolutely nothing about how non-muslims are discriminated in their own Islamic countries.

There is no reason to 'misundertsnd' Islam in this day and age of information.
One can see true islam at work on any given day.
It can be seen in the twisted metal strewn across roads, smoking ruins, angry crowds and in the faces of the ignorant and hateful
I hope that helps wipe away any 'misunderstanding'.
