I was raised with Christian beliefs but recently in the last few years I have been investigating other religions and have found I don't believe in the credibility of any religion. Right now I could be considered border-line atheism and because I know I'm not the only one, I was wondering what others motivations are for living. I myself don't really see a point in living if there is no conscious existence after death. I know a lot of people say they enjoy life because of family and progression in life but I've had a social disorder for several years now and just prefer to be by myself and get no enjoyment out of being around family or helping others. My only enjoyment is in materialistic items, which I have started to realize material items don't make me happy. I'm just wondering if anyone else is in my situation or have been and how you coped with it.

Life is what you make of it. Sounds like you are depressed. Medication can often help. Also, do things you enjoy and avoid doing things you don't enjoy. Sounds simple, but we usually make up reasons for doing otherwise.

Also sounds like you are a critical thinker, which may make it impossible for you to believe in an afterlife or even god(s). That's OK, there are millions of atheists and agnostics that lead very happy lives. You've got to find your bliss and follow it - that is the purpose of life.

I don't believe in an afterlife, and it has made me happier. I had to look at my life and identify what was making me unhappy, and I'm not talking about poverty, although that was one of the reasons I used to be unhappy. It was not having gotten over some of the people I'd lost, regretting past choices, keeping people around who said they cared about me but really didn't, and so on. Until I got focused on the here and now, and woke up and realized that I had to do something about these things, happiness was not possible.

We are all born, and we all have to die, and maybe that's all there is to it. Sometimes you've got to deal with reality, get up and get moving if you want things to be better.

I was raised Catholic, but came to realize that it wasn't for me. I have not found a religion I agree with, either. The point in being human is to form your own ideas. What do YOU believe, regardless of what others believe? I believe in reincarnation, but I don't believe that we can come back as other animals or necessarily HAVE to come back if we don't want to--find a religion that believes that!

The point is to ignore religion for the moment and figure out things on your own. You want to believe in an afterlife, so do it! What do YOU think the afterlife is like? Do you think that what you do in this life will affect it? Things like that. This is up to you.

Life is not easy and it's not fair. That's how it is. It can suck, but it doesn't have to.
I'm sure you know what would truly make you happy, something you're not doing now. You probably already know what it is, too. I'd guess your 'social disorder' is keeping you from enjoying what you've got--A life in the right now.
Allowing fear to keep you from enjoying your life is no way to live. Just doing what you want to may be extremely hard, but if you don't, well....Nobody can do it for you. Good luck, dude.

You don't see any purpose in "anything" because you need your creator to sup with you -
You should ask Jesus to come into your heart and form a relationship with you - Material things, etc. nothing is going to matter to you because you have nothing unless you have a realtionship with Christ - this is what he longs for - he does'nt want to take anything from you - he wants to give you "love"
what do you have to lose - Nothing *
religion - gets way to out there -
Go after Jesus Christ * that simple - God Bless you and i pray that you find the revelation and light of Jesus

I am a Christian and yes there is life after death. Aposile Paul said absent from the body is present with the Lord. Jesus said those that believe in me even if they die yet shall he live. Jesus after he died went to take the keys of Satan in Hell. Jesus has the keys to Heaven and Hell. What keeps me going is me looking forward to the rapture in the near future. I am looking forward to going home to Heaven to be with Jesus. Jesus said that in the last days that many will turn away from their faith, please do not be one of them. Jesus said that those that remain firm to the end shall be saved. Please remain strong. Do not let Satan steal you joy. He comes to kill, steal and destroy. Satan wants to see you without faith, do not let him win, he is a looser. If you would like to e mail me sometime it is jesusisahoney@yahoo.com.au. God bless.

I don't understand how you can go on living with the belief that a supreme being is callously manipulating the death and destruction on this world.

As a believer, why don't you just kill yourself?
