When people say that being 'Thin' is in, they usually don't mean skinny. Most of the time it refers to being 'in shape' with a good body fat percentage. Being fat is risky and unhealthy so it's great that people want to lose weight. Of course, being under your ideal weight isn't that great, either. In both cases, a balanced diet with monitored caloric intake, and an exercise program is the solution.

Hi I'm 18 and I know what you're going through, every girl has insecurities about their weight. I don't kno how much you weigh but you shouldn't be concerned about your weight at 13. When I was 13 I was a little overweight but it is now balanced out, right now, since your body is still growing, it's going to go up and down sometimes. If you really are overweight, I suggest that you take on a high fiber diet and replace the junk food with other things that are good for you and tasty, try fiber one bars, nutri-grain bars, special K cereal bars, special K cereal, and there's plenty more. Since you are an active girl you should be able to eat what you want, you could be starving your body from the nutrition that it needs by taking away too much. As far as the the green tea and water you should drink both, both are very good for you. You're not fat you just have days that you think you look fat. Good luck.

Obesity has become a huge issue in the West. While I don´t condone hype and obsession of being thin... Many of the women in my family are overweight or obese. I do not encounter many people in real life who are healthy weights and obsess about being overweight... I have only seen the women in my family on various diets throughout the years. Part of the reason for fad dieting in America is that Americans expect that they can just take a pill to fix everything. We want quick fixes. So people talk about the new diet they are on rather than discussing the healthy life changes they are making. Permanent life changes.. exercise, diet and stress management are the keys to weight loss. But commercials, media, and even DOCTORS further push this idea that quick fixes can be had.

I think there is a movement for real beauty in advertising. It is in the States and in Europe now. Maybe more places. they have an amazing commercial you should see here.... http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com/home_films_evolution_v2.swf

first of all i just want to say paris hilton is thin but she's not anerexic as for her friend nicole richie she is definetly anerexic. anways the the reason that people want to be thin beacuse for some f*** reasoning it's a syle and a stereotype that people who are not pleased with the way they look follow this in contrast to plastic surgery,it's nothing wrong with being thin unless you're healthy with it.we all know that if your unhealthily thin then most likely you are anerexic or is going to be.Personally i dont get it,How is being a size 0 HOT or SeXYlol it's so disgusting i mean most girl who are anerexic dont even resemble being a girl i mean what's the difference between an enerexic and a boy-nothing,beacuse if your a girl and you become an anerexic you lose everthing that symbolizes a girl and theirs only 2 word to discribe u dead-looking and flat in ever aspect, and i dont think boys find that attractive,it's more like disgustingand for all those who think fat is ugly its not beacuse the point is today people dont even know the meaning of fat anymore. today fat is now considered having curves and being volumptous, and if fat is being these two thanwhy are celibrity's like jennifer lopez, tara banks, selma hayek, jessica albaetc considered the most beautiful women in the world{answer=beacuse they are the most beautiful}and they dont have to be rail thin to be beatiful ,so my statement is thin is not always butiful and fyi CURVES Is the new SEXY and should be celebrated and appreciated.,not anerexia

also, for the person who said star jones oprah and rosie are fat and no one wants to be like them, guess what your wrong, they are role models to a lot of women in america, and good role models at that. and they are healthy and feel good in their own skin unlike these the living -dead zombie like anerexics walking around

Well, young people especially teenagers are into their appearances, and want to do everything they can to look perfect and be popular. They probably want to look good in front of the good guys. I personally think peoples' weights should be a personal thing, as in not telling it to others. For example Ms. A was 100lbs, and told her friend Ms. B she was 100lbs and wanted to lose weight. Then Ms. B (who is 125lbs) would think she is fat and over weight, so she would start a diet, which could lead to anorexia. (P.S. the characters are NOT real)

they need to stop obsessing about being fat and do something about it, like obsessing about eating the right foods and excercising:)

yeah i know how you feel. i was and am the same way. i am 5'3" and before kids i weighed 93lbs. i've had 3 kids and weigh about 112. people still make big deals about how skinny i am. people like us have high metabolism. overall you should just be thankful for not having to fight the weight off. be thankful about being healthy;)

Please continue to Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span.

Because the society that we live in tells us that that is the way it should be. Because to be accepted by society you must be thin or on a diet. I find it repulsive when you are eating a meal, and the lady next to you is telling everyone how great it is that her whole meal only has 100 calories or whatever. Ugg but society has molded the youth into these monsters. That's why.
