Your dentist should take an X-ray to establish their position (if he doesn't, ask why not!). If they are causing pressure on your other teeth (as you said) or are impacted then he will probably suggest removal. My wisdoms were quite bad so I got referred to the hospital to see another dentist and have more X-rays (which means I got the treatment on the NHS rather than having to pay my dentist). Then I had them removed under general anaesthetic a few months later. I had this done when I was 20, and everyone else on the day surgery ward was much older than me so your age will not affect any decision.

As with any surgery there are risks. I think with removal of teeth from the lower jaw there is a 1 in 200 risk of permanent nerve damage. I had bad swelling on my face for about a week, and parts of my face had no feeling for a few days but this came back in due course. The surgery itself only takes about 35-40 minutes and you will be discharged about 2 hours after. It also relieved bad headaches and neck ache that I had been getting for a while with no explanation.

My bottom ones started coming in around the same age, but one at a time. I had them removed (also one at a time) at my dentist's office. It was a very simple procedure. They will probably have to cut the gum just a bit to expose the tooth (but don't worry - you won't feel it and probably won't even need stitches) and I remember that they had to cut the tooth in half to get one of them out, but it was just like getting a filling. The other one just popped out in a few seconds. I had no discomfort or swelling afterward and went on living normally. They may be infected, in which case, the dentist could prescribe an antibiotic to clear that up first. And they'll take xrays to see the position of the tooth, how the roots are; how complicated it will be. If they're starting to come in already, I doubt that they will be too difficult. Good luck. =)

i was about 16 when my wisdom teeth came through. they were very painfull as all 4 came through at the same time. they were also pushing my other teeth out of place. anyway i ended up going to hospital and getting a general anesthetic and having all four of them removed plus a tooth that had been pushed out of place.so in all i had five removed that day. my wisdom teeth were so big the roots of them were across my face and under my nose. i had stitches were the four wisdom teeth were removed. i went home later that day. felt fine, bit sore, couldnt eat really. but all in all no probs. good luck with yours.

The dentist will do nothing. You will go to an oral surgeon, who will remove them as he does for 15 year olds. You will be out of commission for 3-7 days if all goes well.

Be sure to get in ASAP. If they are messing with your other teeth, they will only get more painful and cause more damage to your teeth.

Sure they will pull them. The roots can grow long and crooked so get them yanked. You can do all 4 at once. I had my done when I was in the mid-20's, and coached a basketball game the next day. I looked like a guinea pig, but pain was controlled by Tylenol.

i had my both bottom ones out under general anaesaetic but had to go through a dentist first to get a hospital appointment.you need to go as soon as cos it sounds you need them extracted and infection will start if food gets trapped in there and thats painful.for a few days after having them extracted it is painful and you will be drinking through a straw.but hey its all worth it in the end i promise you.all the best

If there is not enough room for them to come out and they are uncomfortable and painful, he/she will probably pull them. Its okay, they drug you up pretty heavy, some people have a hard time recovering afterward for a couple of days their face is swollen and hurts, other people return to normal in a couple of days, but during those days expect to be eating apple sauce and jello, so eat a nice meal before you go in. ;)

he'll prob just take em out, best thing really if theyre pushing your other teeth out of line. I'm 19 and i think mine are coming through, though its wierd coz they come trhough a little then stop, then ache and come through some more again before stopping. wierd

hello,
the wisdom teeth generally appear at the age of 18-25, but do not worry in ur case maybe they were lying dormant in your oral cavity till now .now first of all go to your dentist , get them x-rayed, find out their position , & do as your dentist suggests i do not think that he will pull them only , hmmmm it depends so stop worrying .Regards
& Thanks
