Phenobarbital is an anti-seizure medication. She will continue to take it until her doctor decides to change her to another type of anti seizure medication like Dilanten or until she no longer needs it.
I had epileptic grandmal seizures from 1978 to 1986 and stayed on medication until June 1992, when my neurolgist determined that I no longer needed it. (I was pregnant with my second child, and had had no seizures during my first pregancy). I was first given phenobrbital but later changed to dilantin in college as phenobarbital made me sleepy and irritable. There is always hope. But please follow the doctor's orders and if in doubt get a second or even third opinion. Do not stop her medication without consulting the doctor. Do as much research as you can and learn all that you can to help improve your daughter's life. Good Luck & God bless.

It is supposed to help control her seizures.

How long depends on her condition according to the doctor.
