Have you ever heard of the rules of masculinity, and do you think all guys should follow them?

I looked it up on Wikipedia, and it lists 7 rules of being a man:
Physical--virile, athletic, strong, brave. Unconcerned about appearance and aging;

Functional--breadwinner, provider;

Sexual--sexually aggressive, experienced. Single status acceptable;

Emotional--unemotional, stoic;

Intellectual--logical, intellectual, rational, objective, practical,

Interpersonal--leader, dominating; disciplinarian; independent,
individualistic (applies to western societies);

Other Personal Characteristics--success-oriented, ambitious; proud, egotistical (applies to some societies); , moral, trustworthy; decisive, competitive, uninhibited, adventurous.

I'm only 16, and I don't think I'm all of that yet so I think I won't be a proper man when I'm older. I don't like sports, and I sometimes worry about how I look. Would you only date a guy who is exactly like that list?

All of those things are the masculine side of being. Look up the feminine side and you will find the opposite. It's like the yin and the yang.
A man who possesses all of those qualities would be balanced by a woman who possesses all of the feminine qualities. That doesn't mean they will live happily ever after.
Nobody can be all of one or the other. The point is to strike a balance within yourself.

PS. I know a guy that does play sports and kids still say he's "gay". Kids are cruel. Playing sports or not playing sports has nothing to do with being a man (or a woman for that matter).
The real definition of being a man is what lies in between your legs and I'm not trying to be sick about that.

PPS. If you look into the study of the Tao, you will find that it emphasizes possessing the feminine qualities over the masculine.

well u r only 16 and you have so much to life yet... changes will come along for sure.. Looking for the exact list in a man is too much to ask for in this practical world. It's all about the person's personality at the end of the day.

do you think all men possess all of the above mentioned characteristics? then you're out of your mind.
that writer must be a lady, who has put down all her expectations of her man. everyone have their own expectations of their special person, no matter a guy or a gal. that's reality. but it would be foolish to believe that things will happen the way you expect. it is often said, "the more you expect, the more you're disappointed". forget these rules and be yourself. there was one rule that you had mentioned "Individualistic". follow that.

mark bear in your mind on the issue of individuallity or every ones uniqueness. Not all men plays sports, i met a lot of masculine men who dont like sports but they like things more than sports like they're hubby is research, community services, music and other magnificent things to do as a gesture of good citizen. what you mentioned are qualifications of a perfect one which do not exist. never mind what they said, as long as you know yourself well and you did nothing wrong against other people, it all fine. God bless..

Honestly, no. Ever guy is different. I like guys with imagination and a sense of humor. Someone who is as curious as me. Not some jock with a lot of money. Being yourself is the best rule you can follow.

This is a list of the attributes of a what a perfect man would be. Something that doesn't truly exist. When you find a perfect woman then you can worry about fulfilling all of these requisites.

haha stop worrying!
to be honest, i wouldn't even consider dating a guy who is exactly like the list. he sounds scary. and it's not possible to be like that. everyone has his or her imperfections. and sometimes it's people's imperfections that their partners learn to love. i love my boyfriend who has some of the qualities in the list, but not all. I learned to love him, flaws and all. when you love a person, you love them for who they are... love is unpredicatble, it's not some silly list that tells you what a man should be like. if that's the case, then every woman and man out there is going to be exactly the same. how scary is that?

You know what? girls your age go for the macho muscle type and call them a man. but when your truly a man...the way you treat your lady will define how much of a man u truly are. even if your ugly, geeky, studly or whatever. treat a lady right and your ALL MAN to her
