I live in the San Jose area of California, and I want to volunteer with a literacy center that helps teach English to people. After deciding that I should spend more time volunteering, I believe that I can put my fluency in English and Spanish to use if I help teach English to non-native speakers.

I'm 16 years old, so I can get a job doing this if volunteering is not an option.

Does anyone know of any centers like this in the San Jose area of California?

Well - check with the county http://www.sccgov.org/portal/site/scc

As well as the city - there is also a group of organizations like City Team, and City Year that might be able to guide you in the right direction... I would also check with church groups downtown, San Jose City college, San Jose State college and various high schools.

There are a lot of groups that could probably use your talents (including various homeless shelters...)

I wish you the best.
