Some responses talked about stress, fatigue, and "vacation mode". You might have some of these, but I do not think they're the main problem.
You have clinical depression. Depression occurs in a lot of people and can be scary. The best thing to do is to see your doctor and discuss it with him/her. Ask him/her what type of medication might help you and what other things will help, for example, exercise and meditation.
If you take medication and your problems don't seem to get better, ask your doctor to refer you to a psychiatrist. Psychiatrists are doctors who specialize in various "mental illnesses" and they understand medications for depression and similar problems. They would be more knowledgeable than your physician about the right medications to take.
The most important things are: Don't think you're crazy because you have depression. It is very common. Don't put off seeing a doctor because your depression will only get worse.
So, make an appointment today. I've suffered from depression for years. Then, several years ago, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, formerly called manic-depressive. Psychiatrists and medications have helped me a lot! Good luck!

that would be depression what you describes me pretty well( i am depressed ) septa i dropped out, so i don't have school right now.
also with the sleeping i do that too, i will be up tell... 4:00 most likely...maybe i'll try to stay up all night... any ways go see a Doctor and or a therapist, the school will give a brake too( be nice about it, give you a couple more days to turn in home work, stuff like that. )
seeing a therapist as helped me allot, but i'm still suicidal. that not the point though, go see someone for sure, its definitely depression, go google it if you don't know how it works and why.

I know what you're feeling and personally I dont think its depression it's just stress and fatigue. I know that when the end of semester approaches I become so lazy because I have been working my *** off all semester and I'm just tired and need a vacation to rest up. You're just getting into "vacation mode" a bit early. Just suck it up, study, be prepared and then you can finally relax.

In olden days it was called lazy Today we know you are just depressed. As you remove the false expectations for life you will be able to find peace. The neurosis that gave you the drive to study may not return.

It sounds like you are depressed. I went through the same thing my first semester at college. Go to the doctor and talk to them about your feelings and they may put you on some anitdepressants.

yeah, im in my last year of school, going for the HSC, and here i am, i cant even concentrate long enough to watch a full episode of the simpsons!
i dont study (and i fail BIG TIME!) , though admittedly i havnt been in school for ages because ive been in hospital and rehab coz i attempted suicide, but hey... welcome to depression!
i wish i could sleep all day and night, but i cant even sleep 1/2 the night! i hate it! i am so tired, my meds make me drowsy and my therapists piss me off! other than that im fine, im your perfectly average 17 y/o girl.

you more than likely have depression. a feeling of being overwelmed is a symptom of it. if the feeling lasts past finals for more than a week i would go to your doctor or the campus clinic. tell them what is going on. it happens to others. you are not alone! hope you feel better soon!!!
