if someone posts a question or answer that suggests that police officers are anything less than all-knowing all-seeing gods who are to be constantly worshipped at all times? And for that matter why do people assume that anyone who doesn't like the way they get things done (or how they don't) has had a brush with the law?

wolf, that would only be true if I didn't care about anyone but myself. But I do care about others, especially the wives of the many abusive police officers who have only recently been given a voice.

Boomer, I have nothing against firefighters or paramedics because they don't throw their weight around and act like jerkoffs, and besides which they are more interested in saving people's lives than taking them away.

Dave, that's exactly my point if you care to read the details.

There certainly are dirty cops out there. The uniform blinds some people to the fact that police are human, not superheroes.

I don't really know of anyone that thinks that police officers are all knowing all seeing gods, and feel the need to worship them at all times. Since when has anyone said that to be honest?

Generally speaking, I do think that some people feel that anyone that is characterized by your second part of the question have had a brush with the law. Why do the law enforement supporters feel this way towards those people? Because those people that say those things about the police officers have no idea what it is like being a police officer, and they do not understand the system. Just because someone feels that something was not handled correctly, doesn't mean that it was handled wrong. There are many other elements to things that people don't see.

What needs to happen is those people that have a strong negativity towards police on the idea that "they handle things wrong", needs to go to college and get a degree in criminal justice and also work as a cop for a few years before they can actually say something that relevant that can smear the proffesion of a police officer.

And on another note, look at who generally has total disrespect for cops. People who have had brushes with the law and cannot stop breaking the law themselves.

I'm not sure how to answer your WHYS but I will tell you that I always wanted to be a police officer growing up. I would tell my mom every year that's what I wanted to be. I even had it in my head as I got older that that's what I wanted. Then, I worked a job where I was around police officers a lot. I didn't want to do that job anymore...at least not in MY town. I live in a smaller town & I'm not saying all the cops are this way but majority of the ones I know are. Most are perverts for one thing, they don't care about their jobs (I realize the pay probably is to blame there), they use their authority to get what they want (including women), etc...Anyway, my point is that my bubble got burst big time. What I had envisioned in my mind of how they would be in this day in time wasn't how they actually were. I know they're just humans like the rest of us, but they took that oath & that job & they should live up to it in a manner that SHOULD be respected...and they wonder why THEY don't get the respect they deserve anymore. Some do deserve it but many don't. By the way, I have NEVER had a brush with the law~

First, you can not lump fire-fighters or paramedics in the same sentence with LEOs.. fire-fighters and paramedics and here to save lives and help people. they deserve all the praise and money they recieve.
I can not say the same for LEOs just from watching the cops show on TV, when 20 cops and 20 cars are tied up to arrest one person, to me that's a waist of tax payers money, every once in a while there are charges that are serious, but most of the time, the charges are ridiculous. I think all this extra man power should be on the borders and stop the drugs before they get here.

Most people are not aware how many times their lives have been saved by law enforcement professionals. I'll bet police, sheriffs, and state troopers have saved more lives than members of Congress ever will, without ripping off the taxpayers.

And don't forget the fire-fighters or paramedics while you're at it. They're our buddies, our people, in our local district, and they risk their lives because it's their job. They don't plan to get rich like the politicians do.

If anybody has a problem with them, it should be properly explained with provided evidence. And while I'm at it, as an avowed agnostic, God bless our sailors, marines, airmen, and soldiers.

Well many get offended because tehy themselves are police officers, a memeber of their family is a police officer, or a loved one has died in the line of duty. All these are valid reasons why someone would get upset.

But it's true that just because they are law enforcment officers that they are perfect in every sense of the word. There are defiantly bad and corrupt cops on the force, we just haev to know how to spot them and weed them out.

Police officers are pain in the a.s.s they should know they are the worst humans that Gods ever created. And by the way i have never worked with them as a criminal but as a victim and believe me i feel like i better revenge myself if someone does wrong to me than report to police officers and when it comes to law i obey them like hell so i cannot come across them that way. I imagine if they treat you that way when you are a victim what if you were the criminal i would never dream of that.

"SOME I AM SURE DO ASSUME BUT OTHERS DON'T"
The cops do a difficult job sometimes under impossible conditions in impossible areas to try to keep people like you safe and secure.
True you get your bad eggs but cops are human to and have the same problems as every on else.
I have never been stopped where i have not been respectful to me and me to them, sometimes a little respect for the job they do may get you out of a ticket or to.
No they are not god's there is only one of them and no staying out of trouble is not that hard with them (just don't go around braking laws and you will be OK...

It is my opinion, that police officers are like us. They have their problems, like we do. I feel that there are officers, that became officers, because they like the power. I think you have to know the reason one becomes a police officer, before you can correctly make an opinion about them.

Yes, there are bad cops (read "constitutional Chaos" by Judge Napolitano) and there are good cops.
