If people paid a flat rate then the ratio of tax paid would be fair to all. The more you make ---- it would still result in more taxes . Plus, many people cannot even itemize unless they have a high mortgage or other high payments.

It also would save many people the cost of even filing for a refund. If your employer withheld 10 percent during the year and that all the taxes required ---- there would be no expense on the part of a government agency or the taxpayer to file a tax return. What do you think ???

I agree with you 100%. The fact is that the working class people pay most of the taxes. The rich use so many loop holes that they hardly pay any taxes. There was this article on TV that show a woman with 2 kids paid more taxes that the Exon corporation.Another fact is that we will never see a flat tax because of the wealthy will be on the front line to make sure that does not happen. But I am for it.

I think that taxation is far too complicated. You cannot just switch to a flat tax, if you did there are millions of taxpayers that would be burdened who are currently awarded by the government for their persevereance in trying to make it on their own....EIC, child tax credit etc. The IRS is limited in the funds it can collect through taxes, hence the increase in the last few years of refundable tax credits......a flat tax only sounds good if you have problems paying your fair share....true, fair is hard to define. You define it as an equal percentage of income going to taxation. I don't define it that way. A person with a business employing people has a higher demand on government services..ie. Police response, EDD, Social security compliance etc. They are also the ones who hold up the economy by employing people....its a huge cycle I know, but personally I never complain about the taxes I pay. I am proud knowing that the police officers in my town are there because I pay taxes, that the men and women in Iraq are protecting my freedom....that my roads are safe to drive on and that the firemen in my town are not volunteer....

A flat tax will never work...

No...it is not fair to tax someone making $30,000 per year at the same rate as someone making what Bill Gates or Oprah make...plain and simple. That is why we have a graduated scale. People can barely live off of 30k and Gates & Oprah can easily live on 1/1000th of their money. You have to realize that the wealthiest 5% of this country control 30% of the money. So, they deserve to be taxed more. I am not communist, but unless you want there to be absolutely no middle class, then a graduated scale is the most sensible.

To the post below me - - I agree with you since my father makes a lot of money and works very hard. So, I would suggest further graduations such as 100k - 600 k... and then 600k - 2mm ... and finally 2mm and higher (at the highest rate). The 2mm + group are the ones who can be far more self sustaining at the highest tax bracket (35% - i assume you are including state tax). the 150k people should not get the same tax as the 2mm people, and i believe this is how it is currently set up.

i think of the present tax equipment punishes fulfillment. We pay on the right of the size for Federal, stay in a TAX hellhole (WI), and additionally might desire to pay the alternative minimum Tax. There are way too many taxes. we would desire to consistently commence reducing wasteful spending.
