I know you have only asked this question to parents(esp. fathers) but somehow I could not stop myself from answering this question coz I love my father!

You can give a formal shirt or a tie/tiepin or a perfume or a cell phone or may be something that he is looking for really long n he is not getting like a particular book or a song, etc. You can also arrange for a surprise dinner with only his close friends and relatives. You can also cook or ask somebody to cook his favourite food. But do whatever make every bday better than the previous one!

My daughter always got me something, no matter how small, and I treasured them. But she paid attention and noticed things. Got me a new wallet because she noticed how my old one was falling apart. I had three other new ones in a drawer, but had to use hers. Now that one is falling apart, but it's hard to get rid of. She got me a frame that I could mount and hang an album cover in, since I have LPs. A picture of herself that's on the wall. DVDs and VHS tapes she thought I'd find interesting. You have to think about him and notice the little things. If he feels the same way about you, he won't let you NOT find the perfect gift.

Hi Lizzyl:

Any small, compact things: like a small box to organize his small things, a hanger where he could hang his favorite shirt, belt or bag, a small tube where he can place his favorite pen, a toolbox that can accommodate the smallest screw, etc. that you can make out of inexpensive materials will be truly appreciated by any father. It's not the price but the effort and the remembering that matter most. I still remember when my 10-year old daughter made a wonderful bracelet (complex woven semi-precious stones) for my birthday. I like it because I know it's the only one of its kind in the whole universe and I'm amazed of her creativity.

being the father of four grown children I would say the best gifts I ever got from my kids were not gifts of great money but gifts that related someway to some memory or time we shared. something that when I opened it I would look at them and we both knew the meaning behind the gift. My 2 cents

For my husband's birthday, my oldest son gathered pictures of himself, his brother, me and his father and put them in a special photo album. His dad LOVED it.... it was a wonderful trip down memory lane!!

You're sweet for thinking of him. Do you have scrapbook stuff? A few nice photos of you in a scrapbook would mean a lot. How about a mix of his favorite songs mixed and burned to CD or stuffed in his iPod for him? Anything that says you thought of it would be appreciated, i'm sure.
