What did it do to make you think it had a seizure?
There are a few causes of "seizures" in dogs
1. Brain tumour
2. Liver tumour
3. Epilepsy
4. stroke (though 8 yrs is young for a stroke)
5. Trauma to head
Go to your vet and they will run bloods. Epilepsy is treatable and manageable with medication

Take your dog to the vet and get the proper medication.
They gave our Shepherd phenobarbital and he lasted a year. But he had severe cluster seizures that would be 4-5 in a row and then perhaps 45 Min's later they would start again and this would go on for at least 22 hrs. Then no more for about 3 months.
The phenobarbital is really inexpensive also. So get to it as some dogs when on the medication never have another one.

GOOD LUCK

Very. The cause is likely epilepsy but you can't rule out something from the environment such as rat poison or the like. Some Retrievers...golden and labrador ...have a genetic defect that makes them have epilepsy. The seizure of epilepsy is stressful for the dog. You can get medicine from the vet to prevent these seizures with the same phenobarbitol humans take. My labrador has epilepsy so I know.

I have a Sheltie the same age who had a seizure not too long ago. I was really worried about her and took her to the vet for a checkup. Everything turned out fine, but you never know. I would be concerned enough to take your dog to the vet, at least that way you know what's going on and can have some piece of mind.

I would take him to his vet. I had a Cocker Spaniel who had seizures and a stroke when he was five. The vet couldn't do much for that. The one thing that really seemed to help him was the addition of fish oil to his diet. I took months, but it improved his seizures, until he no longer had them and got rid of the skin problems and ear problems he had had. He lived to be 16, when he had a large tumor in his abdomen, last October. I give my other three dogs fish oil every day. 3 human sized pills for the Great Pyrenees, 2 for the lab/Akita and one for the JRT. I don't want that problem again.
Your vet can ask you about causes so you may be able to prevent other attacks, or there may be an underlying problem that could be addressed now and could keep your dog healthy longer.

if she has another one and it last for more than a few minutes you need to take her to the er vet tonight. she may have gotten into something and needs medical attention now. it's rare for a dog to start having seizures at her age, but no unheard of. if she seems fine otherwise take her to the vet first thing in the morning and have them check her over and do bloodwork. some dogs live with this condition for a long time and are fine. a seizure is way more scary for us to watch than it is for them. expect her to be slightly lethergic for awhile a seizure is an intense contracting of every muscle in her body. but again this is rare for an 8 year old dog to just start having these without a primary cause for them. if you are worried and think something is just not right. only you know your dog. take her to the er vet.

Take her to a Vet as soon as possible. Has she had her blood sugar checked? GR's have a tendency towards diabetes.
Hope she is okay. I'd say be very concerned because what you describe could be caused by any number of things.

Hello X, Unless your a vet it is very hard to answer this question for you. I hope you will contact a vet. Try and write down what activities your Goldie was doing and eating throughout the day incase it relates to food or something outside that he or she may have come near.
I hope she or he will be ok.
