You better believe it.
Mat 7:21 ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Yes, I thought I was a Christian because I believed in God. I found out later how wrong I was and I got saved when I was going into my sophomore year of college.

Absolutely. My father-in-law calls himself a Christian because he ascribes to the Judeo-Christian standards for living. He is a very moral and upstanding man, yet he does not have a personal relationship with Jesus.
In much the same way, I can say I am a workout fanatic because I believe working out is the best way to live. But if I am actually not putting that effort in everyday and focusing on working out, I will never be fit. And so it goes with having a healthy Christian life.

Many people think they are Christian. The Christian is having a relationship with Christ. No one is perfect, all have fallen short of the glory of God.
But know this judgment will first began at the house of God.The christian will be judged first.Thank God for Jesus,he is my advocate.<><

For questions of this kind it helps to substitute the thing you are referring to in the sentence, in this case ,a Christian, with something else, let's use Napoleon. Is it possible to BELIEVE you are Napoleon and yet not BE Napoleon? Sure; the psych ward is full of people like that. Problem solved.

That is very true. A lot of people here call theselves Christians and yet they swear , abuse and run down other people beliefs . To me that is not a Christian.
God Bless You

i don't claim to be a christian. it has a history of mass murder, destruction, lying, covetousness, and most horrible of all, hypocrisy. it does the very things it says are against god, and then brags about it!
that is what christianity is, the very anti-christ that it claims is christ.
