My mom did exactly the same thing to me. She grabbed the wheel and screamed. I wasn't near anything, she just freaked out. I drove the rest of the way home and promptly told her that I wasn't comfortable driving with her. She acknowledged that she can't stand being a passenger when anyone is driving because she is not in control. I haven't driven with her since. Yes, it has put a damper on my progress because I have to drive with my dad and work with his schedule, but it's so much better. For me at least, it is vital to feel comfortable.
I'd be angry for the time being, but I'd also realize that she just kind of freaked out a little. It probably wasn't anything personal and that's why you're frustrated. In all honesty, you probably shouldn't have yelled at her and you should apologize that you lost your cool, as she apologized for losing her cool.

Parents often take stress out on their kids in different ways. Some just happen to get frustrated over the most worthless crap you can imagine. But trust me, they feel bad about doing it shortly after -- as long as you don't make it worse by talking back. It's my guess your "mum" just had one of those moments!
One thing you will understand as you get older and look back, is that everything was so dramatic. You won't believe how much you made a big deal about little things, and your parents too. If you ever tune into a Teen TV show on the Disney channel, you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. Teen girls making a big deal about how they look, are seen by friends, who they date, etc. It's all a dramatic play until one day you're grown up and realize none of that matters!
10-15 years from now, you and your husband will be sitting around with your parents having a drink together, laughing about stuff like this.

awww....she wasnt angry it was more nerves than anything....when i first started driving and i drove with my parents it was the same thing....any little thing you do they will come down on hard...but they just want you to learn to drive the best possible without putting yourself in harms way or the people around you...
hang in there ....she might do it from now until you ge your license...but i am sure she is doing it just so you become the best driver possible :)

Well, I guess you should say sorry to your mom first. She just worry for you. My mom acted the same to me when I started to drive and even after I get my driver license.
Try to drive with her and make she trust you.

There is a trust issue between you and your Mom. You did the right thing. She may also be feeling threatened by your looming independence. Just a thought. Reassure her.

this was just nerves, an immediate reaction because she wanted to protect you, so you wouldn't get hurt.. this is completely normal. i would feel and react the same way as you just remember she got psycho BECAUSE SHE CARES. xx.

Yeah. I laid down some ground rules. Such as no touching unless we are in grave danger.

cause you were about to hit something. When you back out, make sure that you look behind you. It's a natural reaction that your mom had.
