I'm a FT caregiver and need very reliable transportation to transport my loved one. Im saving for a vehicle right now and relying on a shared ride program. This isn't meeting our needs and I must buy some type of vehicle soon. Should I buy a good used vehicle? Or a new one, with warranties and all of that good stuff. I really don't want to spend more than $500. a month, including the insurance.

Hi,

If you are looking for a reliable vehicle, might I suggest the Kia Sorrento. New Sorrentos have a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty so you are covered for a long time regarding your motor and transmission. You can look at the Sorreto at http://www.kia.com . They have the following warranties:

10 year/100,000 mile power train warranty
5 year/60,000 mile limited basic warranty
5 year/100,000 mile anti-perforation service
5 year/60,000 mile Road Side Assistance

They start at 20,665 so your payments should be well below 500 dollars including insurance, I would imagine. You may find a great deal on a new 2006 model. They typically have steep discounts after the 2007s have came out.

No matter what you buy, $500 per month is probably a reality. Have you added up insurance (higher for newer vehicles because collision and comprehensive is required), interest on the loan, mileage, repairs, registration fees, tolls, parking fees, oil, gas AND THE MOST IMPORTANT COST OR BENEFIT = RESALE VALUE.

If you want to email me a few vehicles, I can run an Excel spreadsheet for you.

Truth of the matter is their arent any good used vehicles. Their all in one way or another lemons which is reason why they were traded by owners in the first place. Keep saving and get you a nice new inexpensive car like a kia or a hyundai. If you have good credit and cosigner with good credit you should be able to easily get managable payments with insurance for as little as 500. Good luck!
