Hi,

I have a 17 weeks old black lab. She was playing and running around with another puppy just fine yesterday afternoon and all of a sudden she collapsed on her side and vomited. She looked kind of dazed afterwards. We rushed her to the vet and they kept her for observation, gave her a couple x-rays (no obstructions), a shot of pepto and a couple shots of benedryl. She had a slight temp of 103.5, but they said after they gave her the benedryl the fever went away. So she's been home since last night and we've been keeping a close eye on her. She hasn't vomited since the one time and has no diarrhea, but is SOOOO lethargic. She has had some gas, but other then that she seems like she's digesting her food just fine. Has anything like this happened to anyone? Any suggestions on what may be wrong? Thanks!

Being lethargic is quite possibly the result of the previous illness - vomiting and being sick takes a lot out of a little puppy! Make sure that she is drinking a lot, because vomiting can induce dehydration. Give her a couple days and monitor her closely to make sure she continues to improve. Taking her to the vet immediately was the best thing you could have done, and be sure to rush her back if she seems to be getting sicker at any point rather than improving.

It is possible she may have had a mini mall seizure. Dogs do have seizures and they can start out very small and sometimes even unnoticeable by us. Being dazed after wards and lethargic for a couple of days after wards is quite the norm.

Thing is it could be another 30-90 days or more before another one may come along... keep an eye out for it.

GOOD LUCK
Sending prayers your way

Sounds like it may have parvo ,you need to get it to a New vet ASAP . Benedryl is for allergies not fever . Parvo is very deadly !!!! Did they even check the dog for parvo ??? That would have been one of the first test they should have done with the symptoms you explained .

no clue. but if she's not feeling better by tomorrow take her back to the vet for further testing. she should be up and moving around more by now i would think if they sent her home. why did they give her benadryl? are you sure that was it. usually that is used for allergies. it can make your dog lethargic same as with people.but that should have passed by now if it was yesterday. but from what you said happened i cannot understand why benadryls was given at all? you need to speak with your vet first thing in the morning. good luck to you.

Sounds like the dog may have had a seizure May grow out of it and may not have another for years but could have then often.
If it is up playing, eating and drinking good don't worry

Call the vet in the morning and report her condition. I have given my dogs Benadryl for allergy and it causes lethargy. They slept alot for a couple of days. Let the vet know.

I would call a 24 hour emergency vet, and take her in and have her looked at, just to be on the safe side. You never know what it could be. Good Luck.
