Been there Done that!
Try it if you are curious, it's a little strange, not as bad as it's reputation, and in small doses it is quite tasty.
But one Durian is so large that unless you use a piece and pitch the rest, you'll be eating Durian for a solid week! I made so many different things with just one fruit? that I was pulling Durian dishes out of my freezer for months!

Yes, tasted it. Yes! smelled it !!! No...not a nice odor..frankly, repulsive to me. But my wife (filipina) of course loves the smell, especially loves the taste, and cant get enough. I wont let it any where near my house. Have to hold my breath when its near. Sure, I'm sensitive, I'm American, and not very tolerant of something like that. And, sure, Filipinos claim Durian is healthy, helps fertility, nurtures the developing fetus, and may be a type of aphrodisiac, etc...but me, I couldnt make love with 'Durian' anywhere within nose shot!...(unless it was the name of a fine babe..ehheheheheeeahhh...) If you like the fruit, then, more power to you! (but please, get your nose checked for blockages). Did u know that some airports/airlines dont allow it onboard (I bet it affects the flight instruments)? Being a pilot, "keep your Durian off the tarmac, please"!!! Why did you ask that question?

durian is sweet to taste but rather foul to smell. I've had it raw and baked in a sort of banana/durian loaf.
Like any food, it's worth checking out.
Keep it cold to stifle the smell though.

I was walking through a shopping mall in Bangkok, and it had a grocery store on the lower level. From the 5th floor, I smelled something so foul I almost threw up. I was headed back to my hotel, and had to go out the street level door. The smell got stronger as I got closer to the grocery store... they were cutting and packaging durian. It was the most horrible smell.... like rotting vegetables. The hotel we were in actually had signs with pictures of the fruit on them that said "Absolutely prohibited in the hotel". They smell that bad. Thai people LOVE them. I have a rule about eating stuff that I would have to plug my nose to choke down. Absolutely not.

I've had Durian biscuits. I think it tastes like bad onions. Some people in the world really like it. I don't.

I have tried one. The inside is milky & stringy. It is the strangest smell & taste....like garlic/onion and milk. I really did not care for it but they are very popular at the farmer's markets near me. The taste stayed with me for awhile and my 6 yr old absolutely hated it. It is a cool looking fruit though :)
