I am an adult and started having reactions to peanuts and tree nuts such as hazelnuts just a year and half ago. It's bad because I really have to watch everything I put in my mouth. I can't eat most candy bars anymore, can't eat dessert at someone else's house or at a restaurant without inquiring specifically about the ingredients and the way it was made. For holidays I make my own treats because then I know for sure it's nut free. I mean, I hated PB sandwiches as a kid, but still liked peanuts and tree nuts in other foods and "treats".
When I ingest peanuts, I get what feels like a really bad asthma attack, and just feel horrible for hours! When I have eaten hazelnuts accidently (only once actually since being diagnosed), my lips, tongue and throat start to swell, hurt and itch - anaphylaxis - and boy, I feel panicky, too. It's not pleasant at all. It was at an Italian restaurant that, even though we'd made clear to them that I am allergic, there was still a hazelnut in the bottom of the food!!

when I was a kid, just a few peanuts would make my lips and throat swell up. I couldn't even eat anything cooked in peanut oil. I avoided nuts for almost 20 years...until about a year ago, when I was tested for allergies again. the doc recommended that I get tested for allergies about every 7 years because of the rate in which cells regenerate in the body.
now, I'm eating all the nuts I can get my hands on... except for macadamia nuts. for some reason, those can still do some serious damage.
enjoy!

I lived on P and J when a kid but as an adult around 30 ,with migraines and a breathing problem we finally figured out that I am so allergic to them that even candy without peanuts gives me a reaction because it is made on the same equipment that items with peanuts are.

Fortunately I am not allergic to peanuts but I am allergic to milk. Milk gives me diarrhea. My worst reaction is to ragweed pollen. I swell up and have a hard time breathing.

An allergic reaction is a warning that you are allergic. You need to stop eating them. I am allergic to walnuts, however, I can eat other nuts. I have to be careful with baked items, or certain foods to make sure walnuts were not used.
Don't full with it.

no i don't have this problem yet. But I hear it can be deadly. I know people will go through menus to insure nothing has the oil in it because they are so allergic. Sometimes it can be deadly.
