A good friend and I have been talking about whether we are friends or more. She knows I like her, but she never told me how she feels. I told her I had reservations about being with her at this point in my life. Tonight, she asked me if I wanted to start mutually sharing our deepest secrets. Why does she want to know my deepest secrets suddenly? She wants to tell me hers too. Then she said we can "be an encouragement to each other". Why does she want to do this?

From a girl's point of view she is only trying to get closer to you that doesn't mean you will end up together but you will have a closer relationship. I would not recommend it due to the fact that you have feelings for her so secrets should stay secrets that is why they are called secrets

Girls like to get into your head. Don't go for it. You are better off being mysterious and keeping your own secrets. She might blab them all over town.
