I've read all the other answers and I don't think any (of the Christians) understood. For some reason they think being punished for an finite crime for all infinity is justice. Let me tell you this, there is no crime that one could commit on Earth warrants that much punishment. And to think that simply not worshiping a god is such a horrible crime that deserves to be punished for all eternity is just plain sick. Me not believing in the Christian god does not harm anyone.Anyone that thinks that needs to check themselves into a metal hospital because they are a danger to themselves and others.
The point of the idea of Hell is to put the "fear of the Lord" into people so they will bow down and worship simply because they don't want to burn. I for one would never want to worship a god that would cast anyone into a lake of fire. He doesn't deserve it.

Do you believe in Heaven being forever? If so, that why not Hell? If someone repents and makes it to Heaven, they have made a choice to accept God, and when they get there, they accept Him with their entire soul. However, if someone dies and is not repentent and does not accept God, then can they go to Heaven? No. At that point, they have rejected God with their whole soul, choosing the sin on their soul instead of God. This is why they are condemned to Hell. And once you end up there, it is forever. There is no "timeout", or only spending a few years and then you get to go to Heaven. Hell is permanent. Our time to accept God and repent is now, while we are here on earth. The reason it is so urgent that we do so is because we never know when we will die. You're reading this message right now, but you don't know that maybe tomorrow, while going to the grocery store, you could die in a car wreck. Most of us expect to live to an old age, but that isn't guaranteed. Death could come at any second. This is why God is calling us because He wants to save us. Nothing in our imagination can conjure what Hell is really like. It is that bad. Ask yourself, is that where you want to spend eternity?

Because religions are designed to make you walk there line. Do not communicate with other religions. Do not study anything that tries to destroy your religion. Do not think for yourself put your faith in whatever it tells you to put your faith in. Hell is a perfect illusion to keep people from not following the religion. If you disagree with me and think hell is real and beleive everything the bible says. Well your going there because i bet youve shaved before. Or planted two different seeds apart. Or have not stoned me to death for blasemphemy. And if heaven is the place where nothing bad ever happens. And there is no such thing as discontent. Then it is useless too because with content there is no reason to create. With not creating then what do you do besides sit around all day. Religion is just a bunch of rubbish. Somehow just because a book is admired the fact it was written by thousands of people over hundreds of years is not important. It somehow comes straight from the mouth of the creator. Who only rewards people that are ignorant to self thinking.

The point of hell is quite simple. Hell is that state of being wherein a human or angelic being is deprived of the vision of God. Those in hell, the angels and humans, if any of the latter, would not have it otherwise! It is torment but nothing to the torment of having to see God if that were possible to them. In short, Hell is their DESIRED abode. They hate God and would be as far from God as they can be. So it isn't a mean God Who torments the damned. God is Love. The furnace of His Divine Love is for the reprobate experienced as the eternal fires of Hell. Let's put the blame where the blame belongs. Love is free and if one doesn't want to love one can not be coerced.

Because hell is not eternal. Divine punishment sees to it we learn and evolve spiritually. It just doesn't make sense God creating us to be burn eternally like a reject.

Hell is simply a place without God. As we know from the divine revelation God is the source of all goodness. The state of being as far away from God as possible is hell. Hell can begin while we are still living.

Hell, as you have described it does not exist. You are correct, in that Hell could never be considered remedial. Hell as a place of eternal damnation was conceived to control the masses.

the idea of hell is a tactic of fear to dissuade those prone to sin from their actions . A possible deterrent in the present but of course of no real value for the supposedly unredemptive.of course to hold true it would have to be followed through and not just a vain threat. I don't buy into any of it.But act according to reason of morality as contrasted to fear of unreal consequence.
peace out

i believe in hell as punishment but i do believe when you are truly sorry for your sins and not just to go to heaven but for what you have actually done and are rid of sin and a good person , you will be realeased from hell, but if you are not sorry for what you have done then you will never get out.

Hell is a place set aside, away from God and the light.
All that is in hell is fire, darkness, pain, suffering, and heartache.
Everything bad is there, and it was made by God for the Devil (Satan), not us. But we have to say yes to God, let Him into our hearts so that we will go to heaven instead of hell.
