Others are correct, Drivers in back, irons\hybrids in the middle, short irons\wedges front. Good golf bags will have a clip, tube or other special storage method for your putter.
There is, however, more than that to organizing your bag than just the clubs. You'll want to pack a couple of towels, maybe a change of socks, etc. These go well in the side pockets. Hang a golf towel on the outside of the bag for cleaning your clubs.
Put essentials (balls, tees, etc.) in a top pocket for quick and easy access. You should keep a greens repair tool and ball marker in your pocket.
The main thing is to keep things as organized as possible so that you (and your playing partners) are frustrated as you go to your back for clubs or other necessities.

Yea depending on how many slots you have in your golf bag you should go get those plastic holder seperaters that you can buy like at any sports store or wal mart. They are really cheap and can organize your bag. If you don't want to spend any money just come up with a designed spot for each club and keep everything in that spot at all times. For anything else just find a side spot

In my opinion, no matter how you organize your golf bag, it's not going to stay that way for long. Since drivers are the longest club, they look better on the top row. Irons look their best in the middle, and wedges or putters look good on the bottom. For all your tees and balls, try to separate them. That way you don't reach in and pull out a ball when you need a tee.

Woods and putter go on top. The top is usually softer to protect the putter and the graphite shafts of the woods. Long-mid irons go in the middle. Shorts irons and wedges go on the bottom.
