There are six causes of hair loss:
1. Stress
2. Hormones
3. Diet/Nutrition (or lack thereof)
4. Medical reasons
5. Medications
6. Family history
If you are unsure, it would be a good idea to check with your doc. Thyroid issues AND certain birthcontrol pills can thin out hair. Since you've been on these meds for awhile, there could be a combination of things happening so that it's pushing it over the top. Check with your doc as to what he thinks it could be.
In the meantime, try using Nioxin. If you use the Cleanser and the Scalp Therapy, it should at least STOP any further thinning. You can get these products at most good salons. Make sure they've had training and gotten education on the products so they can recommend the proper products for your situation.

I know it has only happened within the past year but it can still be caused by your condition. This may be a sign that your meds aren't working for you like they have been in the past, or it could be you're changing by aging. Everyone's hair, nails, skin, etc... changes as they age. Someone with oily hair during their younger years may experience dry hair when they are older. Same with skin. If this is happening as dramatic as what you have said, I don't think it's caused from age. You may need to mention this to your doctor so he can recheck your thyroid to see where you stand. Perhaps your body has become immuned to your medicine or it needs stronger doses now. Even if you don't have an appointment to see your doctor soon, call the office & just ask to speak to your doctor's nurse & ask her about it. She will either tell you whether she thinks you need to come in or she'll have your doctor call you back. I'm sure you already know all of the info but I put a link below discussing the thyroid & the possible signs/symptoms of it such as your hair thinning diffusely. Good luck~

Are you on any anti-depressants? Many of these can cause hair loss and thinning of hair. Also, take a look at your family, it may possibly be genetic. As much as we hate to admit it, we are getting older...I used to have really thick hair too but have noticed that it is slowly starting to thin out in the front. Looking at my family, there are distinct attributes that show I have stronger traits from my father's side of the family than my mother's to include thinning hair

Hair loss generally comes as most grow older and at times considered hereditary. However, I've heard of premature hair loss occurring on those that take medication or are stressed out or both. A dermatologist would be the professional to help you out with this question.

Hair will thin in your 40's so get ready for it. Try to increase your protein, make sure the thyroid is balanced and take a good multivitamin. Additionally, you could try a "body wave" by a talented sylist whom you trust.

If you are on Synthoid, in some people it can cause hair loss. Perhaps you need to try a medication like Armour. When I switched from Levoxyl to Armour the hairloss stopped.

It good be a genetic thing, a hormonal thing or still could be due to your thyroid.
The best bet for you would be to speak with your doctor, he will run bool and hormonal tests to see where your levels are, also a mutivitamin may help especially one with Biotin.. also I have found extra protein helps and drinking plently of water.
Good luck!

as you reach your 40's the main reason for Hair loss is Stress and Diet, while heredity does help the process as well.
There are many products out there to help treat the thinning of your hair.

maybe its a hereditary thing..did anybody from your family had the same problem?..ask your folks...
OR..
you're stressed out..stress can cause your blood vessels on your head to act swell..not drastically ofcourse...hence,blood can't pass through...and by that, nutrients that your blood carries can't go on your hair..so that's it..
i advise whem shampooing, massage your scalp to relax the blood vessels on youur head...
i hope it helps...
