I'm talking in scriptual terms here, when the scriptures refer to a little 's' spirit, what exactly is 'our' spirit. I have an idea, but just trying to broaden my perspective.

The spirit is the essential "you". It is the part of you that is capable of communication with God. The Bible teaches that men are spiritually dead and need to be born again. (Ephesians 2:1-9; John 3:1-13)
I Thessalonians 5:23 says " Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you ENTIRELY; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The soul, when spoken of in comparison with the spirit is always the lesser and lower element, being the part of the inner man that is intermediary between the spirit and the body. It is the seat of emotion, intellect, will and appetite. The spirit is saved by being born again. The soul is renewed through the process of bringing it into subjection to the spirit. The human spirit is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. This is best typified in Scripture through the pattern of the tabernacle. The tabernacle had an outer court, which corresponds to the body. It had a holy place, with three furnishings, a lampstand, table of showbread and golden incense altar. This corresponds to the soul and its faculties. The spirit is the Holy of Holies, which contains the Ark of the Presence, signifying the Spirit of Christ dwelling in the born again spirit.
It is the word of God that enables us to distinguish subjectively what in us is spiritual and what is merely soulish. "For the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, and joints and marrow, and able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12)

ok the spirit is the part of the human that thinks to do good and has the ability to reason. but we are in a mamal body. this is our soul. the soul is so strong and powerful that it often overrides all reasoning(spirit) and takes us where we do not want to go. there are ways to fight this. and i dont mean any holly roller stuff. just sound and true principles of human nature.
now the Holy spirit is Gods active force seen in Genesis 1:1 God is truely 100% spirit. all of the universe all that exists is contained within his spirit. yet he never interferes. no matter how bad we are. there is only thing we have in this life and it is free choice. the ability to choose. and this is so strongly influenced by our soulful desires. wine women and song have ruiened many a powerful men. if u want try me on im or email i can explain more if need be.

A myth. The customary usage is essentially synonymous with soul, also a fiction.
