And if He is rich because He is so smart, why is it wrong for a televangelist like John Hagee to be well off?? He has 2 Phd's and has to pay for airtime in 96 nations.
Only 3 of those nations are profitable; USA, Bermuda and Canada.
Why is an evangelist "telling people what they want to hear for cash " and Dawkins "writing what people want to hear for cash" different?
Hagee bases his sermons on today's facts, current events, his expertise in abnormal psychology and theology...and the Bible. So please don't say because one is fact and the other is fiction.
Not to mention he is the head spokesperson for Christianity of Migdahl Ohr, a charity that brings abandoned poor Jewish kids out of Russia into Israel and gives them a home. Why is this so offensive to people, yet they have no problem giving their money to McDonalds, Paris Hilton and Richard Dawkins?
Lets have some good strong opinions! Have Fun!
Blessings,
David T

The difference is that these people claim to be 'holy' servants of GOD and deeply care for poor people. There ridiculous wealth makes them criminals since they are taking donation for poor people from often low income followers.
How relevant is the financial situation of Richard Dawkins to theology? Nobody thinks paris hiltion is a religious leader. I think we just laugh at her stupidity. Same way we laugh at Borat(only that guys is acting) which would make hilton funnier. No Atheist i know of thinks Paris Hilton is a good person or even interesting. A regular atheist would NOT buy her book but a few would watch her show for a laugh.

Who says he's wealthy? Notoriety and money do not go hand in hand.
Richard Dawkins is a professor, with all the splendid riches that go along with that. (about $30,000 if you're lucky.) and he's written a couple of books, which even as bestsellers do not automatically equal great wealth, ask any author. Stephen King probably does well since he puts out a book every five minutes, but the rest are really just comfortable for the most part.
I'd be willing to bet that Dawkins isn't as rich as you seem to think.

I have no problem with televangelists and the like making money off of what they do IF they admit that's why they're doing it.
If they were truly in it for nothing more than helping others and spreading their religion and getting children adopted, they would take all extra money they receive and give it to their causes. It's not the fact that they are wealthy that bothers me--it's the fact that they seem to come across that money by sneaky means.

Who is Richard Dawkins?
As for his religious beliefs, those are his choice. His charity work is commendable as he is saving lives. I would like to know how these kids got abandoned in the U.S.S.R. I have never heard about that.
As for hypocrites, save that for Bono. He is now married to corporate America and is starting a harem for political leaders around the world. He wants that cash. He is now a former punk and an English knight. Good old Irish boys do not become English knights. It is an affront to the meaning of Irish nationalism, not I.R.A.-style, but the idea of its meaning.

Anyone is allowed to earn any money they can.
Richard Dawkins has written several books, at least two of which have become best sellers. In addition, he is an Oxford biology professor.
Beyond that, I have no idea what his financial standing is.
But then again, I have no idea why you are asking this question.

The first thing that comes to mind is that a church or spiritual endeavor is supposed to be non-profit, and cannot be compared to a business or sole proprietorship.
Oh .. and make no mistake .... I would never give my money to Paris Hilton!

Televangelists are full of false promises.
Dawkings is observing the world around him.. He is not asking for money based on false promises.
