Your butt and legs are already strong and you are trying to minimize their appearance so don't do butt and leg workouts. The firming you desire will come from weight loss.

Sit ups, push ups (real ones, not girl push ups), and pull ups (install a pull up bar). You can add reverse inclined push ups as well.

If you want to get a simple barbell and dumbbell weight set you can use weights for upper body strength training. This will help burn the calories you need to burn to firm up.

Eat healthy and reduce your calories.

spot excercising doesn't work (the ones that are only targeted on a specific area to slim them down). But you also need to mix excercise w/ healthy eating & portion control to lose inches from thighs. Excercise alone won't do it.

However, Jump rope is great, and a low impact aerobic videos also work well. Dancing is probably the best & funnest thing to do. Turn on some jumping beats and shake that booty!

I'm currently listening to "bust a move" by young mc even though I'm not excercising. Watching a movie, an action or chick flick would be great for motivation, if that's a problem for you.

Try buying a DVD on Pilates. They are a great workout but don't make you sweat. Also are great for toning.
