I agree with AM16's answer. While +R DVD's in recent time had faster write speeds, the -R DVD's have been more compatible with component DVD Players.

However, if you use stand-alone DVD Recorders to record TV programs, or transfer Mini-DV tapes to DVD, the DVD+Rs offer some advantages to the -R. When recording to standalones DVD recorders on DVD+R, you are still able to add/alter titles, add/remove chapter marks, etc... before finalizing the DVD... all of which you cannot do with the DVD-Rs. This all sounds fine and great, but after finalizing a DVD+R with all of these changes it is quite difficult to simply make a 1-to-1 copy of the edited product. While I haven't tried it, I suspect you can correct this problem with FixVTS, which is a freeware, prior to burning the duplicate.

So, if you just want to download MiniDV footage to watch on any DVD player, go for the DVD-Rs... as you may run into compatibility problems with older decks with the +Rs.

Good luck. And check out www.dvdrhelp.com for reference. They're a great source of information.

+Rs are less compatible than -R's. Always go with -R's
