After a car accident I've gained 20 lbs and been living in constant pain. I used to cheer, dance, and kick box...but all those activities make the pain worse. Swimming is good but I need something else to help restore my shape and ease the restlessness.

What's a good activity that might not agitate the pain as much?

I have chronic lower back pain and I find that plain old walking does a lot of good. Sure enough, if I take more than a day off from walking, the pain comes back. I do geocaching because I like to have a goal when I walk. There are lots of hides that are on flat or nearly flat ground. Don't be embarrassed to use a cane if it gets you going faster to burn more calories. I sometimes choose heavier terrain because my hiking stick can be used as a cane and I get a better workout.

I used to be a dancer until cancer hit me then lymphedema. I can't do alot of things I used to but I have found that yoga, isometric stretches, and aerobics along with some walking tones alot of places pretty good. The stretches and yoga help pain too as it's stretching and moving gently in ways that strengthen the body but not too much to cause pain.

i have recently experienced a similar situation. I would suggest you invest in some Tylenol extra strength or ibuprofen 800 and a good back brace. walk as much as possible and drink plenty of water. You could also take hot baths and use heating pads to help ease the pain.
