"it" I am referring to is Satan. I didn't say they believed it, I didn't mean they follow him or God, I said that they SAID THEY LIKED THE DEVIL. People here on Yahoo! Answers sometimes don't like to read. If you are dyslexic, you are pardoned.

The Church of Satan is comprised of atheists. Perhaps this is what you are speaking of? If so, "Satan" is for them a symbol. Here's their "Nine Satanic Statements."
1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!
2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!
3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit!
4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!
5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!
6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!
7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!
8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!
9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years!

It's more about the positive acceptance of suffering and all that Satan symbolizes. Some of us want to be carefree children while others pursue the beauty in chaos. What would art be without suffering? I'd prefer Pink Floyd over Christian rock any day of the week. It's not sarcasm. Satan is like any other fictional character that people can identify with. To me, Satan represents the antithesis of hypocrisy and never settling for the "fat and prosperous brood of mediocrity."

The Church of Satan uses Satan as a symbol of free will and personal resposibility. Not as a God or spirit being. This might be what you are referring to.

I haven't a clue. I don't know of a single atheist who believes in Satan. Atheists don't believe in the supernatural, as a rule.

Whatever. You're just talking out of your ***. Atheists don't believe in your devil or satan. Just like they don't believe in your, or any, god.

hmmmm ok.mabey they could be referring to devil art or dark demon art,SOME atheists do prefer the darkside, but it doesn't have anything to do with a belief,we just prefer things like decor, art, colors, surroundings to be dark in nature, and it may sound stupid but if that's what they were not referring to or something like it,then i doubt its a true atheist.
