Date!!!! Have a good time. Whoever told you not to date was uneducated and misinformed. Are you on medication to help control your swings? Going to manic to depressive can be quite distressing to a lady (if she's never seen anything like this), but if you are on regular meds they will help even out the swings so they are not so drastic.

Some wonderful people are Bipolar. I know many, even one or two in my family. Robin Williams is Bipolar and has been married for years. You will not end up alone unless you choose to be so. Please do be reasonably up front about your illness and be willing to talk openly about it. There is nothing to be ashamed of.

I would never tell someone that he/she shouldn't be allowed to date unless there was some uncontrollable violent tendency. The question is, who told you not to date? If it was your doctor, then either he knows something I don't know, or he is being irresponsible and not doing his job. Just the fact that you are concerned enough about a potential girlfriend to worry about this tells me you'd make a good boyfriend. At 18, you have your whole life ahead of you. Bipolar Disorder is not untreatable. As long as you are getting help, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to experience a full and happy life, and that includes dating. Talk to your doctor or a school counselor. If they are the ones giving you this bad advice. Get a second opinion. Good luck.

Being bi-polar shouldn't prohibit you from dating. Maybe there is something more going on than you have written, but I would be curious who has told you not to date. A doctor? Friends? Family?

There is medicine you can take, and you just need to find someone patient. I would suggest you seek counseling if you're not already doing it, and more than that, seek God in the midst of this.

Who says you can not date.? Being bipolar is not a death sentence. As long as your moods can be controlled while being with someone you should date... Maybe you should talk with your psych and ask this questions. Because there may be more issues than you are stating.

that's not a good question to ask. you shouldnt ask for permission to date even if you have a illness. you should go out and have fun and meet a great girl to make a serious relationship. being bipolar shouldnt restrain you from dating. have a girlfriend. HELL! BE A PIMP! =]

Yes and whoever told you that is an ***. You just need to make sure that the girl knows about your condition and know how to recognize the symptoms of an "episode". Just because you have an illness doesn't mean you should be alone... you just need to be upfront and honest about it.

How about team dates? you may have a set of associates to love visit a movie or out ice skating or inspite of, and also you may nonetheless be consisting of your boyfriend. it isn't considered too a lot of a "date" if there are human beings there too.

Dude, everybody is allowed to date. Just cause your bi-polar doesn't mean squat. My cousin is mentally impaired and he's got a fine a** wife. I mean, he's been in psychiatric homes, institutions, and hospitals more than once and he happened to met his wife in one of the hospitals. This woman's got a Bachelor Degree in Medicine and Health and is married to my psycho cousin. He's still a good man and so are you. Good Luck to you...
