"Big" toys. I don't mean expensive. Tonka makes some big tractors and bulldozers, Little Tikes has some big truck & motorcycle trailers. At Christmas, I saw a keyboard that was up on a stand and was like $30.

My son (also 2) has been getting a lot of more advanced toys (GeoTrax train sets, Little People villages) as gifts and he is starting to play with these. However he really likes to pick up and move bigger things.

More expensive, but we got him a Trike for Christmas and he's bonkers for it - even the helmet! It's the Huffy Canopy Tricycle which was about $50 and has a detachable handle like a stroller. It's sturdy, you can control it until he gets the hang of it, and it's a bit more "tough" looking that the average Trike.

I would think about starting some kind of savings account for him, yeah toys are great but my son is almost 2 and has so many toys it is unbelievable and he still would much rather play with a box than the actual toy. He may not know what it is now but he will thankful you thought enough to help him with his future in the long run. And if you want to get a small toy to go with it thats up to you.

I got my son a ride on motor bike (chargeable one) this christmas which he loves or maybe you could try the Leap Frog First Leap Pad - it's really for 3 years+ but my son will be 2 soon and he's ready for it. Perhaps anything similar to this will be fine. Good luck.

How about personalized books? Kids really love to hear their own name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles to choose from like Sesame Street, Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, Looney Tunes, Dinosaur Land, Scooby-Doo, Sports titles and so many more. They are very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful & unique gift. Check it out and good luck!

You should get him a some learning toys, my three year old son loves building blocks[ he sorts them by size and color] he sits and builds them for a very long time, or maybe a leap frog game, like the interactive t.v., my son loves that, your son will have alot of fun learning his shapes and colors on the T.V., look into it, my son has alot of fun with his.

Do not give him a book, he'll never use it. Buy him some truck toy or some toddler infant toy ask a customer serv rep at your local toy store for a range of active exercise toys that keep kids on the move. Also get him a teddy a nice looking one not to girly though that way he'll keep and remember you for a long time.

My son is 2 and loves to play with his wagon full of giant Lego blocks (designed for toddlers). He also loves his Tellatubby DVD, it's the only one he watches faithfully. Any kind of cars or trucks he can push (make sure they're safe for his age). And the best gift of all?? His daddy showing him love!

Mr Potato Head. It's a good toy for developing motor skills, an understanding of body parts and where they belong and it's fun.
