Drinking would be a big mistake. I think this is something you just have to practice on your own. Prescription and illegal drugs might make you act stupid or drowsy and people might catch on that you're on something. I have the same fear so I know where you're coming from. I take Xanax (Dr. prescribed) for anxiety but I would never pop a couple before giving a public speach. Can you practice in front of friends or family members? If you are nervous in most public situations, like me, seek help from a psychologist! They are trained to offer helpful advice. You could check a self-help book which I know cover issues like the fear of public speaking. By the way, millions of people share this fear (even famous people!), so don't stress! Are you referring, by the way, to just talking to people at a party or giving a speech in a class? You can overcome shyness! One thing that helps is too really know what you're talking about and practice, practice, practice. Good Luck from a fellow nervous public speaker (social situations and speeches)! I tremble, sweat, twitch, and even almost stutter and I hate it! Unfortunately, that's why I drink when I go to parties and stuff and that's a problem! Don't do that!

Just don't make a big deal! Like example if it's a presentation in front of 20 people think oh it's just 20 people it coul be worse i coul be presenting in front of 100 people! And just a little sie thought about 90% of your audience is probably not really listening!!! you could also find one spot and just focus on that. But usually if you calm going into it you should be fine. so just o something you fin calming before you speak! If all else fails RUN!! ha j/k!

My husband had to speak in public and even teach classes from time to time. At first he was a bit nervous, but found that the more he did it the better he got. He also made sure that he knew his subject matter very, very well. If you know what you are talking about, you feel confident, if you feel confident, that will come across in your speaking.

some people take a beta blocker to blunt the effects of the body's catecholamine surgery (fight or flight response) before public speaking. a beta blocker would be something prescribed by your doctor.

not thinking about it too hard. do an excirse with your friends looking into someone eyes and focusing on them until you are comfortable then move on to the next one. you are not trying to intimatied them but fine something that will make you feel better. do not try to impress them but find a common ground with your audience.

Imagine that you are speaking one on one with a friend.

Put yourself there and you will be comfortable.

Doobie. Also, who cares what they think. You are in control, not the audience. If they dont like it, tough.
