new york city?

i'm going to visit nyc in 1 week. me,my mom,and 2 sisters are moving there. we don't know when though maybe 1 year-1 1/5. i need to know some nice neighborhods in manhattan,or brooklyn. i know it's expensive but which neighbhorhoods would you prefer for familys and isn't as expensive as some of the neighborhoods. prefering not to live in harlem, canarsie, flatbush ect. =) any websites for finding a nice apartment or brownstone. i would also like to find out some "things" that happen on a daily basis in the city that most people who arn't from there wouldn't expect. appriciate the time.♥

Every neighborhood in new york has a different feel, so you have to go check them out for everyday things that go on there. If you check out places like brooklyn and queens, there are literally hundreds of little neighborhoods where you will quickly find your 'favorite morning coffee' shop, favorite takeout place, best corner market, etc... It will be less expensive there (i personally like Clinton Hill in Brooklyn--also Park Slope in brooklyn).

Don't discount Harlem. It's not the same old harlem from the past. The West side of Harlem is developing rapidly, with shops, upscale apartments, etc...We say it's 'being gentrified'. You know what that means....
