So I have had this argument:

basically, someone will say "homosexuality is evil because of Leviticus 20:13 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-11", and i will reply "ok, well, then you should not cut your beard because of Leviticus 19:27 and we should kill all nonChristians because of Deuteronomy 17:2 and 2 Chronicles 15:13", in which this person usually replies "no, those aren't true any more. it was a different time back then and now God doesn't expect us to follow those rules..."

Ok. So if someone quotes from Leviticus 20, and I quote from Leviticus 19, why is chapter 19 nullified?

How do right wing crazy nutjobs know which quotes to get mad about and write on their crazy protest signs, and how do they know which ones they can ignore? Where is the documentation for this?

I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires. ~ Susan B. Anthony

I don't think you could some up the churches stance on homosexuality any better than Ms. Anthony. It seems silly to me when people confuse right and wrong with their fantasy religious beliefs see above answers.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
part of what he fulfilled was our responsibility to punish the lawbreaker. the thing about the beard was not for the christian but was for the jew, there you see the difference between the old and new covenants.. once again deut. 17:2 old covenant fulfilled yet you're trying to make it new covenant.. the old says a false jew is to be stoned, but in the new they are to be cast out of the church as seen in 1Co 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one no not to eat.
1Co 5:12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
1Co 5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
and homosexuality is still wicked as seen in romans 1:26-1:32

When Jesus came and died for mankind a new covenant was made between God and man. This covenant made it so that man did not have to do all of these rituals to be holy. For instance they no longer had to sacrifice animals and they could shave their beards. But Corinthians was written after this new covenant was made. It says that homosexuals will not go to Heaven. We are no longer required to stone them as in Leviticus. Somehow, I don't think the left wing crazy nutjobs would like us stoning homosexuals.

Some of the Law doesn't apply anymore. For instance, not shaving your beard was one of the things the Jews were to do to set them apart from the world. There wasn't anything wrong with shaving, but God wanted the Jews to be different. Now, we have the Holy Spirit, by allowing it to live and work through us, we will be different.

However, the moral law, laws regarding our behavior toward each other and how we conduct ourselves still stands. Laws regarding cleanliness and sacrifices have been done away with when Jesus spoke to Paul and by Jesus' death. However, laws regarding our moral behavior still apply, and homosexuality has to do with moral behavior God designed sex to be within marriage between a man and a woman bc the masculine and feminine natures complement each other and are the best environment for raising children.

nicely, Allah and God are an identical, so, no problems there. in case you comprehend not something of the Bible, nor historical texts, it incredibly is easy to have your attitude. yet, do a sprint digging.... virtually all historical books exist as single copies, or maybe 2 or 3. those are copies, of copies, of copies, and maximum are one thousand years previous or much less. evaluate that to the Bible: over 10,000 historical copies, with some fragments going back to AD150. nevertheless copies, yet, that earliest fragment is probable a 1st era reproduction (i.e., a reproduction of the unique). between the coolest things approximately one and all of those copies is that any reproduction blunders, or tries at enhancing could be as we talk seen, and fixed. There are only a number of those in certainty, and none that ameliorations the substance of the story. not basically that, the books themselves have been heavily chosen. fairly than only writing a e book, and putting it obtainable, the handfuls of the books of the Bible have been very, very heavily chosen. they are from the canon of Scripture - books universally referred to as being "particular" in some way. the everyday and veracity of the Bible is unheard of for any text cloth of the classic international. It became examined not so until now with the aid of the Lord chief Justice of england, who became apparently not incredibly a non secular guy. His legal group concluded that the Bible may well be common as data in a courtroom of regulation, as a results of it is high quality. noticeably excessive compliment. There! not a single quote... yet, now you comprehend that any rates could be good - and, fairly truthfully, could be taking away of context, and used to justify all varieties of stupid, or terrible issues. The text cloth is super; what we do with it in many cases isn't.

The severity of those wrong doings remain the same.

Homosexuality remains WRONG.

Killing remains WRONG.

It doesn't matter which chapter or verse you're referring to, they're all still valid. The only thing to note is that because of God's grace through Jesus, you don't have to pay for these punishments if you confess and repent and ask for forgiveness through Christ....and you don't repeat the offence(s).

Everyone needs to stop dissecting the books into verses.
Read the book. Otherwise things get taken out of context.

What you do is come up with a crazy "abrogation" argument for all the verses you don't like, which leaves intact the verses that happen to advance whatever your political ideology is.

Jesus overruled God on some of those silly Old Testament laws. That is the great thing. You get to pick and chose which ones to follow and which ones to say "Jesus says it don't apply" to.
