I heard of putting lube (like personal lube) on the affected areas... But I don't know if that will work... Anyone ever tried that?

Drink a healthy amount of water. Then go to a health food store near where you live, and ask them about some essential oils that you can mix with your food that will make your skin hydrated, and help your digestive tract.
I used to have really dry skin too, irritatingly dry, but a week after using essential oil treatment I started getting nice smooth not dry skin, it was great.

forget the lube, all creams will basically hydrate you externally but they wont fix the underlying dehydration. Dry skin is caused by either lack of water/fluid or lack of essential fats that lubricate the skin. They are found in evening primrose oil, flaxseed/linseed oil, starflower/borage oil and fish oil. As well as in nuts and seeds. Try including them in your diet or taking them as a capsule while drinking 1.5-2 litres pure water daily for 4-6 weeks. Should see an improvement. And if you want, use a moisturiser in the meanwhile while the oils and water is running its course.

Don't use lube! it's not made to soak in and hydrate your skin. i have eczema, chronic dry skin, and i've found that fish oil (in pill form) and drinking at least 8 glasses of water help a lot. my doctor also told me to look for lotions that list water as the main ingredient, and has less alcohol, oil, and petrolatum. water based lotions soak into your skin and help it stay moisturized. also, if you don't already, get in the habit of putting lotion on, right after you shower. doing this while your still wet from shower, helps lock in your body's natural moisture.

When I was a kid, I had severe skin dryness. The doctor prescribed me with a non-scented super hydrting pastey lotion that you layer on, and then put cotton gloves on for the night. In the morning my hands were soft.
I also had to drink a lot more water. I grew out of it in a few years.

Skin dryness is sometimes caused by vitamin A deficency. You might want to try some supplements if you don't have a balanced diet. Or cream with vitamin a in it.

See this really, really good website. Its a pdf file, so you'll need Abode Acrobat to see it. Take the time, it tells the straight truth about treating dry skin.
