I'm 17 and i have a guy i like who seems to reciprocate... how old is too old?

Well in legal terms, someone who is 17 can technically sleep with anyone they want to, so you can legally date anyone you want, when you turn 18 you can't date anyone younger than you, and if you were 16 or younger you couldn't date anyone over 18.
Morally I would say anyone over 21 wouldn't be good. The older you get the gap between partners ages doesn't seem to matter as much. Say if you are 20 and you are dating someone who is 25 it's not a big deal. But if you are 12 and dating someone who is 17 it is really wrong even though it is the same difference in age.
My aunt just turned 20 when she married my uncle who at the time was 35. It seemed really strange then but 10 years later it doesn't seem so bad.
Just make sure that however old the guy you are interested in is, you tell him how old you are and don't lie by a year even.

I think that age matters less and less as you get older. However, when you are young, I think it can matter a great deal, because of differences in maturity levels / experience levels / where you are at in your life and what you are looking for is greater. So, for a 17 year old, I would really not recommend dating more than 3 years over your age, and 1 year younger. However, that is ignoring legal issues - if you are planning on having sex, you shouldn't date anyone older than 17 until you are no longer a minor.

If I were 17 I wouldn't date over 19. I think that is an OK age to date up to. I have a 16 year old daughter and wouldn't want her dating to far out of her age group.

really there never is a too old if there is love... but it's harder to find things in common when there is a huge age difference and also there is the fact that society doesn't really treat you very nicely if the guy is old enough to be the girls dad.... right now it might be hard for you.. if your parents think the guy is too old but after high school age isn't really that important at all... i'm 17 and with a guy who's 21 and we are both fine with it... my parents would kill me if they knew but they don't so its all good

I would say 17. If my daughter came home with an 18 or 19 year old man I would have a real quiet and firm chat about the idea of dating my daughter. I would inform him that he should quietly walk out and never contact my daughter till she was 18. If he decides to do as I request....he walks out without a limp.....if not.....
