It is better to color hair that is a little dirty, for the sake of your hair. Hair is more vulnerable when it is clean. so you will damage your hair more if you color after you wash it. Good luck!

My stylist says to leave the hair unwashed the day I go in. I usually wash it the day before and then not put gel or other products on it. She said the hair dye cuts through whatever though.

Yes, just don't brush and stimulate the scalp before hand or it will burn your scalp when the color touches it. Washing the day of coloring stimulates the scalp.

it would be better to wash your hair before dying it. that's what they do at salons. hair should be clean and oil-free for the color to stick to it.

its fine to color it, but if its a permanant color i would wait a few days just so your scalp is not sensitive, as it goes on dry hair.
